I did not bring the small container with me because I knew that I would be landing very close to home in the test. I was thinking of taking a piece of tubing and a collapsible container. May still do it but space is at a premium when camping-touring on an SD.

If you think that is impressive:

I travelled 13 hours through same desert alone on a greyhound bus from Las Vegas to San Francisco once.

The bus was met at a couple of locations by shotgun toting redneck lawmen loading convicts to ride along with us.

By us I mean me and a couple of dozen crazy people.
Of the type you hope only exist in movies. Crazy bunny boiler that wants to tell us all her life story Incredibly obese truck driver that couldnt waddle fast enough to put out the tyre fire that burnt out his rig down by green river (wherever that is) Loads of other halfwits that want to share their life stories with a busload of complete, and scared, strangers.

I longed for the dignity and restrain of London Underground silent tube journeys. I didnt even have my thickest pants on

Not stupid at all, but that is where the tool kit goes and I would be positioning the canister where I would have to take all my gear off to get to the spare fuel. Me thinks I am going to fill a collapsible bag with three litres of fuel and dump it in as soon as I have room in the tank. I tried a nalgene collapsible water container with gasoline in it and there was no drips or eating away of said bag. That would ensure thirty miles more from the mileage that I allready am getting. My trial was at less than 500 feet above sea level and the actuall area that I need the great mileage at is at 7000 feet above. I do not know how much this effects mileage but my gut says it will get much less mileage at elevation. Once again the warning light never came on in the test and I have had the warning light come on at less than 100 miles on many previous excursions. If the tank is truly five gallons, I should have enough to travel 222 miles to the last drop. This is a lonely stretch of hi-way in the middle of podunkville. If I run out of fuel, which now looks highly unlikely, I will be walking a mighty long way.
