Just binned it on Chelsea Bridge (kamikaze cyclist vs new front tyre and pads) and learnt that lhs crash bungs do a better job than rhs, that broken/cracked ribs ain't funny and that I need something stronger than codeine - any doctors here?

MrZ32

bloody push cyclists are the worst... and they cut in front going down hills as you are coming through too... real pain

i hope you mend quickly and that your bike is ok mate

dude sorry to hear that I'd have run the fooker over so at least you could sue his arse for jumping the lights/riding off pavement/add some other illegal thing they all do.

Hope you and the SD make fast recovery.

He rode away of course but I took out another wholly innocent cyclist - gutted 'cos this is the first time I've injured someone other than myself in an off - he was bruised and grazed but it could have been a lot worse for him as we both took the force and weight of the SDR and he was in shorts and t-shirt only.

Sorry to hear about your off, GWS. Friggin cyclists

Bad luck on the crash.

Seen quite a few off's on the bridge but that was back when the big late night bike meets with lots of showing off used to be regular highlights. I don't think they do that any more?

I broke my ribs falling off a bike when I had a bad cold which added to the fun!

Good luck with the recovery. If I make it to the proposed winter gathering we can compare rib experiences and I will try not to make you laugh as, from memory, that’s no more enjoyable than a cough!

Too right on the coughing/laughing - feels like the ribs crack/break again every time - still, only damage to the SDR was two broken indicators, only one of which snapped in the wrong, irreparable place.

Had just put in new SBS 762 pads temporarily as could not get hold of EBC's - will swop them out as soon as 'cos they do feel very grabby even for new pads.

Was also first time I've been breathalysed and cautioned as the accident was "obviously my fault" - innocent until proved guilty? - NIP on it's way?

Wow, bummer, dude. Sorry to hear this mate. Bit shocked about the old bill's approach....did you get any witnesses?

Shit news mate. Hope your ribs heal fast and the bike is easy to sort.

I hate fooking cyclists in London. They are the worst breed of selfish, useless idiots on the road... No tax, no insurance, no test, no license, NO CLUE.

I actually ran right over a cyclist who ran a red light in Camden. Bent both his wheels and his frame - but I stayed on, with no damage - and he apologised to me for running the light, and then panicking and swerving into me... (well, he had no choice considering the abuse I was giving him).

I think they all need to take a test and get massive on the spot fines for running red lights and doing right turns without indicating or doing a life-saver.

...and... breathe...

SDR's fine, rode it home that evening with dangling indicators, only feeling a little sore - interesting, though, how the cracked/broken ribs only kicked in (big time) the following morning.

Bad news dude but hope you get well soon

You can throw Ibruprofen and Paracetomol in the codeine, numbs it abit more, i was having take all 3 when i 1st broke my wrist (plus the Codeine used to knock me out for good sleeps )

Co-codamol? When it says 'avoid alcohol', does that mean no unless unavoidable?

Forgot about the pain control part of the post.

Ribs are tricky as they move every time you breath, more so when you laugh or cough etc and they remain flexible even when the break is healing well. When they move they hurt, the more they move the more they hurt.

If you are having real pain issues and the usual off the shelf analgesic stuff isnt taking the edge off then go back to your doctor and see if he / she will issue a script for some Tramadol. These will remove all the pain for most people but some people feel a bot spaced out when taking them. Good to allow you to get some sleep etc when the pain is acute.

Hope that helps and my sympathy as I know from experience how uncomfortable ribs can be!

Hope you get well soon dude, stupid cyclists!

They are the same evrywhere they think they own the road.

Tip: Stay away from funny people and jokes for a bit till the ribs get better!
