Got the SD sorted for about 200 quid (not bad realy), had a mate visit so we went out for a spin with him on the HP2, me on the duke and a gixer 750 & Triumph Daytona. Got 150 clicks into the ride and pulled up for fuel with me mate mumbling about a knocking sound from the HP. Turns out that a bolt holding the bar above the axel had come off and the prop shaft separated from the rear drive leaving the bike unridable. Tore it apart last night and the fookin swinging arm is cracked plus the prop shaft spline is fooked. BMW (Break MY Wallet)!!!!! 2 fooooookin grand to replace swinging arm & prop shaft. WTF!!! If you look at the culprit bolt it has no locking mechanism apart from a lock washer on the head of the bolt. The nut is welded to a bracket on the rear frame and there is no lock what so ever. So any movement whilst riding acts on the head of the bolt and works to back it out!!!! Gonna try some kind of legal claim based on design fault because the bike is 6 months out of warranty. Should have flogged the beemer and bought an Adventure..... live and learn!
