Continental TKC 80

any one run a set of these?
im going to grab a set for my SD this season and run some fire roads with my buddy and his Tenere

I haven't had any on mine, but I notice that this Finish dude has had some on his 990sm ..

the more i think about it the more i like the idea!
there is a guy who did it to his Panigale, id think the SD would be even more fun, the suspension is up to it and the ride position is just, well, better suited!
ill report back when i have it set up.

I'd like to see the pics if you get them mounted. I would worry about the battery hanging out in the jet wash though.

I've run TKC-80's on an Africa Twin. I think the SD will overwhelm them on the road and probably not last too long They do grip really well considering the lack of rubber on the road and work quite well in the wet too..

I think you will destroy the battery and everything around it if you go off road with an SD

What you're planning seems fairly similar? He looks to be running wets on his bike.

Me thinks it time you add another bike to the stable.
XR650R ? ? DR650 ? ? KTM 690, yes......
That way when you over shoot the corner you will not feel so bad.
Get the right tool for the job at hand.
Get a DS bike and start riding the dual sport events. Real kick in the b-hind, and a lot less, if not no cops at all.
Start riding this one in '96. Won lots of gear, one first place, fun times.

I did a fire road on my Superduke a while back ago. The rear will eat your plate. Tread lightly.

There is no doubt that you could have some fun. The TKC series will serve your purpose very well. I'd be willing to bet that you will get about equall mileage out of a set as you would a set of sticky road tyros. You will tread lightly on the road as you will over stress your traction levels and you will get crazy gription on the dirt roads. I think it is a great idea and probably has some educational benefits to go allong with the fun factor. Thje perfect world is as DF says. get yourself a XR??? the next best would be to get a spare set of wheels. The TKC is a good in between notion. I am surprised at how many times I have been asked if the SD is any good in the dirt as if thatr were a normal playground for it.
The Pirelli Scorpion Sync may be a way in and a bit cheaper. Do they make the TKC in a 180 series?

The SD off road could be fun, the Panigale that the Moto Corsa guys made is ridiculous and actually offends me a little for some reason. There is absolutely nothing "dirt" about that bike, and Ducati makes three other models that would actually be fun to ride with the TKC 80s. It reminds me of guys who put 22" chrome wheels and low-pro tyres on their Hummer.

I remember the video of that bike being ridden on a dirt road. Couldn't do a wheelie, couldn't go fast, and the rider looked like a monkey trying to fook a football. I would take an SV650 with mandlebars over that Panigale on dirt any day.

There's a good fire road where I grew up in Madison, Blakey Ridge is what it's called. It's at the end of Quaker Run Rd Rt 649 near Criglersville and dumps out near Wolftown. Go to the top of the mountain and make a left at the 4 way "intersection". It is passable with an SUV.

Modern motorbikes will go 100,000 miles if treated with respect. 35K is not even half life.

$600-$800 bucks and you can have a dirt bike...with real suspension for dirt.

You are going to hurt your self with that, with out real dirt bike experience. Hope you have good gear and insurance.

Yes, you do need a dirt bike, you just don't know it.

And, no, that is not a dirt bike just because you have knobs.

My sense of adventure is my 2004 KTM 950 Adventure, and my 300 KTM EXC, and my Honda XR650R. I am just trying to keep you safe and healthy. A 400 + pound street bike is no place to start dirt bike riding. Once you loose traction with that lump, there is no getting it back.

My 950 Adventure is 440+ lbs. I got knocked of it a year ago in traffic at 25 MPH, did a Super Man with out a cape and ripped out my ACL.
Tried to stay of dirt bikes last year to heal up. Took my 950 Adventure to our club ride so I would not be tempted to ride trail. Got the dirt bug bit real bad so I thought I just run down a little bit of trail, just a little, mind you. Front end washed out, head butted my wind screen with my lip/nose/teeth. Thought I knocked my teeth out / split my nose. Got back to event parking lot after another guy helped my pick my big dog up....fooker's are HEAVY....to get patched up, bloody mess, everyone looking.
Of all the bikes I have I will have to say I like riding my 300 2 smoker the best...hands down. I have a fantastic place to ride and been doing it the same place since 1977.... Not all have a place like this and I have worked my ass off for it.
Not a big deal trucking my bike to the ride area. And new real knobs are like Velcro. Riding road to get there will destroy them. I put new tyres on last Friday night and felt the tyres going off within 20 miles. A good starter size bike is the 250cc range. and some where in the 230 pound range. Rest is over kill.
