#2I have to day from a UK perspective that is proper mad.
I got stopped in San Fran about 10 years ago. Did my UK usual, jump out and say hi to the copper. Safe to say it didn't go down well and I had a rather irate officer pointing his gun at me and screaming to get my hands on the bonet (hood in your speak) Once he realised I was English he chilled out but recommended I didn't just get out of the vehicle next time, as that is the kind of behaviour that can get you shot.
It's the way we do it here though. You get out and chat to the cop. Keep it polite and except the bollocking and most of the time they are pretty ok.

If I asked a cop if it was ok to reach for my wallet, he would think I was on crack - and arrest me
I've never been stopped or recieved a ticket in the automated speed cameras/speeding... pretty lucky
I've had my photo taken in Germany at some automated thing on the autobahn... but they didnt send me the ticket

#10I got jumped by half a dozen Japanese cops (with guns) in a shopping centre once. Bit unusual because I hadn't even ridden up on a bike. I guess it's just that I'm ugly or walked in on something. Lots of bowing and scraping once it was all sorted.

#12It's all very well when you get pulled and have a chat with the cop, if you're nice they may let you off, what I object to is the bloody robo-plod that takes your photo as you drive past and shazam! one week later 3 points and a fine lands on the door mat.
