Sadly amazing radical concept bikes always get a bit watered-down when it comes to getting them production-ready... Homologation requirements for lights and number plates, Euro 4 emissions compliance, the addition of mirrors and indicators and the like result in the original bike reappearing in a somewhat neutered form. Unfortunately for the connoisseurs of top-drawer componentry it's entering a very tightly-contested class of middleweight twins, the current leader of which is Yamaha's MT-07 that manages to be perky and fun and yet they almost give them away, facilitated by it being cost-engineered right down.
The Duke 790 will probably be at the premium end of that market segment, but the inclusion of multi-adjustable suspension, top notch brakes, and lots of electronic rider aids won't make it any cheaper and I'm sure that KTM will have wrangled over what the market wants and needs, and what they can afford to include or omit. I'm off to the bike show at the NEC in Birmingham UK in a couple of weeks so I'm going to have a really good look at the 790, and hopefully it'll be appealing (and low!) enough to tempt my girlfriend away from the idea of getting another Monster....
