dude, dude, dude... they usually tell you to ALWAYS check that any modification to bars, clipons, risers, ride height adjustment, does not foul and cables. always check by turning the bars lock to lock with the engine running before a ride. even if you take stock bars off and put them back the same way. take the time to do this. being human and trying to rush can make us forget this so always recheck!!! (obviously this applies to brakes as well as wiring etc)

as far as the tank goes. it is the little gas charged lift that keeps the tank elevated for servicing that is the culprit, it is very strong and still tries to do its job when bolting the tank back on. good idea, bad design. there is a thread on here (do a search, id do it for you but am strapped for time today) that addresses this. some guys just remove the thing and prop the tank up with a home made prop as necessary. i plan on doing the same next time i am under there.

the lifter is long gone... removing it helped, all of last season i had no problems, but now i do again...
what pisses me of the most is not knowing WHY this is happening

problem with the bars was that i installed them when the bike was still garaged for winter... i thought it looked tight, was gonna check when i have her out for 1st ride, but then i forgot all about it. no big deal, or rather it wouldn't be if not for the tank...

Let's do this thing and come to understand it. mine lines up BEA--UTIFULLY ,

joe has installed a stud and nut in the top for convenience and I hate those Allen bolt heads...just did a clearance check and all is good..

M0T0 does outstanding work and besides this,, is one (1) of the nicest guys I have ever met, he a real pleasure to work with and restores my faith in humanity,

I will be indebted to him for many moons. joe is inspired by him and will try to devise a fix for the bastage bolt in the tank, I will keep you posted.
