Here's my mate "Dinger" from circa 1980 on his GT250 cruising down the A6 to Preston. Helmet fashion didn't come into it really.

PS, he was about 6 foot 6 and any bike was too small for him.

MADDOG!

You got a good sense of the stuff we wore. Fringes on our jacket sleeves, denim shirts and patched jeans. Any COWBOY BOOTS!! How did you know? This is me aged about 19 with my favourite pair. Right one never buffed up to a shine because it was always soaked through with 2 stroke oil from a persistent leak on my Kawasaki triple oil pump.

This is my mate Tony with his Bell. I wanted that helmet bad

If I remember correctly, I think the design he had painted on it was after an American racer called Steve Baker who rode a very fast TZ 750 Yamaha, probably about the same time, or a bit before, Kenny Roberts became dominant.

Everyone else bought AGVs. The ones with three stripes of horizontal colour. That Katana was the first version launched - it caused quite a stir styling wise at the time.

I went to see this beauty a few months ago. I had the 400cc version, same colour but with a red stripe and with the UK spec lower bars.

This was a recent import from the States and pretty much original. But the guy knew what he could get for it and wasn't ready to do any sort of deal on his asking price. £5,500!!!

I've looked for RD 400's here - very rare now.
