I know nothing about macs' but my bro in law is a mac head, here goes...

1. he believes the poly version is last years (old version) with an upgraded motherboard, as they list the monitor as "glossy" not actual glass (as in the ibook alloy)

2. this is a specialized hybrid , not recommended for most

3. the 5400 is plenty, save the upgrade money for Applecare extended warranty (MANDATORY). Forget the ssd until they work out the kinks.

The alloy ibook is the ticket!

Hope this helps!

Refurbished is OK- just make sure there's SOME kind of warranty.
Joker is right on the money. I never buy extended warranties, but I am easy on computers and know how not to treat them. YMMV.
The Air is cool looking, but that's it. It has exactly 1 USB port, no optical (CD/DVD) drive, and exactly zero firewire ports. Stew-pid.
A KTM sticker on a black MacBook sounds about right. Get loads of ram - don't worry about the system drive, you can always get external drives cheaply - you'll need one for Time Machine anyway.
I can send you a CD with Office OSX (unkeyed) if you need.

agreed, i never buy ext warr either, but he utilizes his pc more than about anyone.

He has a syndicated music radio show . is a photography nut, and day trader all on his mac 8 hrs/day. He has had problems, which is why he recommends warr.

Of course the right choice is the one YOU make...

just tryin' to help our joe decide

well here I am back again, and grateful to you doods for the help cos goodness knows if anybody needs help it's me

that statement made a lump in my throat after this past month, seems for me anyhow, thart when I have good stuff happens it comes in buckets and V V..

joe is easy on his PC's. I try to treat everything in my life with respect, cos I am a thankful guy, some people you can say just one wrong word to and

they get their feathers ruffled up, with me if you say... hey joe!... I made a mistake ! are we ok here?.... (yes my friend, we are all good here).

I am always a forgiver cos I know that no one is perfect and we all have our own weaknesses and strengths. It is like at the racetrack when circulating the

course, you will see that in places you have good points and in other spots have not so good points,

this is exactly what improvement works on, just making minor adjustments as we can... ok sorry rambling.. back on topic..

I am going to the mac store right freaking now cos I am a touchy feely person, I want to see it in person then touch it,

I am not completely tech savy but am going forward with you guys help... Thanks again.

Damnit, I knew it would come to this...

I went to the apple store, the white laptop is freaking screaming GAY LOUDLY! might as well be PINK!! the aluminium is cool but jezzus,

needs to be matt black powder coat for that price. I don't know if you can teach this old dog these new tricks??

I was in the store for 45 min's and no SOB even asked me if I wanted help... this is the bad thing about becoming invisible...

no one can see me... it's the shates to say the least. I goofed around on it and was able to navigate, came to SD.Net as a stranger....

but the cost is what gets me and when I go to the mac web site they are very covetous with the pricing of the extended warranties on the PC and the display,

feels like I am getting bent over at every turn. joe likes a great value, but when I pay a premium I want real quality, not just hype,

metinks thare is 50% quality and 50% hype on these macs, just cos they have a stable OS!!? I should have done a poll on this thread, simply PC or Mac?...

now I am perplexed, the mac must have crashes cos they have a recovery plan, they also have a web cleaning plan so I guess the multitude of

cookies are an issue too, it really seems that patience is a virtue in the PC world we live in. I am no PC geek by any stretch but master the PC I have.

no worries really cos I have had to whip most things ass at least 2 times with all the PC's I keep running, my daughter is extremely jealous too!!!

I'm automatically logged on each time and use my ipad 99% of the time, but a long time ago it would not log me on so i put in my username and was emailed a new password which was various numbers and letters. I ticked the box letting the ipad remember to log me in and remember the password and all was hunky dory for many months. But around Crimbo time I was asked to log in and I could not remember the password, so I put in username and asked to be emailed a new one. An email never turned up and I can't access the forum on my ipad and I'm only able to do so from my desktop. Can someone help by emailing me a new one which i will keep a copy of this time.
