I admittedly don't know much about them. All I know is that it seems to be growing rapidly out of the anger they have of many muslims not assimilating into the British culture and transforming many areas.

#6Hmm I hope this isn't becoming a trend on here. One thread was locked recently for racist/religious hatred comments. Lets not let this turn into another that gets locked please.
That said, I can't resist a question like that ... Call them what you will, EDL, NF, BNP. They are all a bunch of racist thugs. With the failure of the BNP at the last election and it being shown to be the racist organisation it is by fighting being forced to change it's constitution on allowing other races to join. Add to that Nick Griffin being given some air time and coming out of it so badly mauled he is basically a dead man walking, a place was left open for the EDL to walk into. They are trying to look all multi racial by attempting to bring in members of other ethnic minorities to gang up against Muslims or "extremist Muslims" as they would have you believe. The old the adage of "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" springs to mind. Basic PR to try and make themselves look more acceptable to the general populous. However once the Muslims were dealt with it would then be back to basics and attention would move back to Black people, Indians, Bangladeshi (add any other non Anglo Saxon race) Then Eastern Europeans, gays, liberals, maybe even the Irish again. They used to love kicking the crap out of the Irish. In the 80s and Maggie's Briton they were your football hooligans. Now a recession and pissed off people all adds fuel to the fire again and they have found the perfect enemy in extremist Muslims. At least the Anti Fascist League and Unite Against Fascism are still going strong and make it to every EDL event. This normally ends up in a punch up that doesn't really help one cause or the other but someone has to make a stand. The only real way to defeat them is by engaging them in debate. Just as Nick Griffin was shot down in flames on Question Time so should the leader of the EDL be. Nationalism is NEVER a good thing.
That said, the same applies for the tiny, tiny minority of extremist Muslims here. Engage them in debate and they will lose.

#8Seeing pictures like these led me to research what the EDL is so concerned about. If protests like these were in my backyard I'd be pretty pissed off as well.
