Whats with the Moto GP riders ( eg: Rossi, Stoner ) throwing out their leg coming into corners?

Watching the dice between Rossi and Lorenzo on the final couple of laps it looks like Rossi is thinking I`ve got to make my self as wide as possible, I know throw out a leg

Goes to prove one thing though that he doesn't use any rear brake.

Theres several theories including balancing/weighting the bike under breaking, theres also a theory that Rossi started it to see if it would catch on

As well as the weighting thing there's also the plausible theory that the leg acts as a spoiler and the additional wind resistance helps turn the bike in towards the corner as well as adding a braking force.

Personally I find that it looks awkward and ugly and must piss off the camera men as it doesn't make for good corner entry photos!

I would so LOVE it if Rossi one day admits that he just started doing it to see if others would copy him:lol:

It does add wind resistance at speed and slow you down, as I found by accident while trying to split on the freeway at a high rate of speed the other day. I had a bit of a pucker moment.
