List your bike history

Hi to all, am new to the forum having just got rid of my 1050 SpeedTriple
( which I miss a little) and bought me a new SuperDuke (07 model )

Anyhoo show me what you got, and I list my history of bikes.

1982 Suzuki GP100 ( we all gotta start somewhere )

1983 Suzuki SP370 ( what a laugh that was )

1984 Kawasaki Z650 (ok)

1985 Kawasaki GPZ600 ( my first and only sports bike, but I was young
and loved it at the time). I bought a Yamaha DT 175 runabout
which was pinched and recovered and left me with just the GPZ

1987 GPZ 600 goes for my first flat, Boo Hoo, and I get a Yamaha
TT600, huge laugh but only had 6 volt electrics and drum brakes.
A more usable XT 600 is aquired until first sprog turns up (1990)
which puts an end to bikes for a couple of years.
A shite GS500 comes along and is swapped for a shite XJ600,
these were just to get me on 2 wheels cheaply, (regretable)

1997 Suzuki GSF 1200 Bandit, great motor and had it dyno'd and race can
plus changed front and rear suspension. Most enjoyable and usefull.

2002 Triumph SpeedTriple 955 and I loved it

2005 Triumph SpeedTriple 1050, wow what a fantastic engine but Triumph
build quality made me have to let her go.

2008 KTM SuperDuke (07 model), I just wish it had a bit more grunt, but
handling and smile per mile are great. Cant wait to try the naked
Venom.

Now name and shame (if you like) your own

Damn you guys are mad, you've more bikes than I have shits in a month! This'll be my shortest post ever;
Got my first bike in 2006, an 05 blade (I really don't know how I survived).
After 1 year and 10 months of almost constant 200+ speeds everywhere, I realised 'self control' was NOT going to miraculously develop, and decided to get a bike that wasn't so happy doing those speeds... So I moved to the...
07 SD (got in December, I just couldn't wait).

Quite frankley he's the only guy I ever trusted working on my bikes, I never did buy a commando off him but there were several that in hindsight I should have, that Seely Condor w/commando engine comes to mind, it was left at his shop with a resto in mind by some doctor that "forgot" about it Ron never heard from the guy again and looking at it complete, nice,,,,he did so much work for me for free, I owe the guy,,,

A pictures worth a thousand words. Some of my bikes over the years. 1980, cowboy boots and jeans, 'L' plates on an RD250, some of the happiest days of my life. That Dunstall GS1000 was fastest bike around my village for a while and I so wish I'd kept the 900ss because it was the prettiest bike I ever had. Lc4 best for hooning, KH400 the most high maintenance, and the VFR bored me so much I had a bottle of champagne when it was stolen.

Hey Preey I noticed that you still wish that you had your RZ500 Yamaha.
Well mate I know how you feel I still wish I had my RG500 DOH! There is nothing like hitting the power band on a 2 stroke.
I've even been thinking of getting a Aprilia RS 125 just for a bit of fun. But a 250 would be heaps better I just think it would be hard to get a good one.

Don't have pics of the first, it was a 1977 Kawasaki KE 175, 2 stroke rotary vales bomber.
Then stepped up to a 1986 Honda XL 250 R 4 stroke dual sport - beat on that for about 5 years, then got my first street bike, a 1984 Kawasaki KZ 700, which i made into a GPZ styled bike with custom paint. Paid $700 for it, put about $400 into it & sold it 4 years later for $900. Then bought a 1994 ZX9R, painted 2 times, rode the piss out ouf it for 12 years & then bought my 07 SD.

matt_black

matt_black

TLS_Rus.....

Your list is awesome! I think we have had a parallel life - but I've not owned so many. Thing is, when you're younger it's not the bikes you owned really, more the bikes all your mates owned and brought round to your house for Sunday morning fiddling, and all the bikes you borrowed or rode pillion on. And all the bikes you sat in pub car parks dreaming about. And all the bike you saw getting crashed, and ruined and abused. And loved for and cherished. And all the mates you saw injured....or killed. (I lost seven mates from the 70's through to the mid '80s). I too list my bikes with the mods. and the memories and the injuries I sustained on them - they are inseparable.

But man, those RD Yamahas - I loved them. For me the aircooled ones were better than the LCs - 'cos I understood them. I have lost count of the hours spent with a drill and grinder messing about porting those engines. Ha ha we did not know what we were doing most of the time - ended up with very peaky engines. But I loved them. And Kawasaki triples too. They were my favourite. Rattling small bearings and oiled up middle cylinders. We all wanted, (and occassionally got), Swarbrick expansion chambers. They were miles better than the ubiquitous Microns and Allspeeds. Handmade stuff.

Anyway, respect mate.

PS. Oh, except Honda SS50s were really shit!! What you doing owning those!!! I had an AP50 but wanted an FSE. Now think I had the better one. But those Hondas were s....l....o....w!!
Paddy Field

Paddy Field

Yep I have two stroke oil in my blood, The air cooled RDs were the best balance of handling and power, much better than the spindly LCs that followed!
The only later water cooled two strokes which had that same raw feel were the RG500 and the KR1s

Honda SS50s.... well.. the C70 step through cyl head, barrel and carb fitted straight onto the SS50 bottom end and could be bored out to 75cc, PC plod never knew even when I got nicked for doing 59mph in a 40mph limit

FS1Es never stood a chance only a well sorted AP50 could keep up.. just

The stand-outs (for me) were the RC51, GSXR1000, and the SDR of course. I had the GSXR1000 and RC51 at the same time for about 2 years and that was a blessed-good time! I'd ride the Honda for a week or two, then hop on the GSXR (limited edition, all black with gold wheels yummm) and it would feel like a fookin freight train! Then back on the RC51 after a week or two it felt like such a badass hooligan machine. That bike really made me fall in love with V-twins proper.

I really don't know what might come next. It'll definitely be another v-twin, but at this point I can't see giving up the SDR, it's just too good. It helps that there are only maybe 5 of them in Canada so I know I'll never run into another on the road. I also doubt I'll ever get another superbike... I ride my wife's 1000RR from time to time and it's a fooking torture-rack, I can't believe I used to ride those things every day.
