You meet the nicest people on internet forums and at track days!
Take for example a 3 day track event I did in Jan 2009 at Cartagena in Spain. For £399 your bike was shipped to Spain from the UK, return flights paid for, accommodation, track time and rental car hire also all covered in the price.
I met a number of the guys flying out at Luton Airport and on arriving hooked up with the people I was to share a car with. Sharing the car was a stock broker, a dentist, a cook & me. The cook snatched the keys and jumped in the car, we all followed. Driving from the Airport to Apartments we got to see a little of our drivers character.
Arriving at the track next day and the people were warning me to stay clear of the cook, saying at other events they had been to he crashed first day. They were right, the cook crashed first morning and wrote off his ratty ZX10. For the rest of the 3 days this guy just hung around the pits, not really engaging with anyone.
Roll on a year and I have the radio on in the background, it's the BBC news and I hear a recognisable name. Peter Wallner, a cook from Cobham had been found guilty of murdering his wife and keeping her in the freezer for 3 years, WFT !!! Well the murderer was sentenced today - Life in prison. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/surrey/10224913.stm
Here's the Cook, AKA Wheelie Bin Murderer at Cartagena 2009.
No he wasn't a nice guy, No he couldn't ride for shit & I'm not sure what his cooking was like. The rest of the guy's in Spain were top blokes.
