Mr KTM
The guys I was riding with this weekend to the Lions rd have all pulled out as they claim it's too dangerous! Really makes you wonder how many riders out there actually have any passion left for riding.
You pull up on a ride and occasionally you'll see a bunch of litre bikes etc etc go past so you jump on and tag along only to find out they ride like girls on the rag. By any means I am definitely not 'fast' yet am unable to find bugger all riders to go with for a decent fang.
Just getting out and doing wheelies for the day or getting the knee down at stupidly slow corner speeds just for fun is great, yet where or how often do you see guys popping it up out of bends or pulling up on the straights and practicising standups or rear peg wheelies? None of the above is in the 'too hard basket' for any rider. Especially those who go out and buy a Superduke.
One point I find interesting is that when you pull up after a ride, either for lunch or a break along the way, you watch everyone and most of them will say nothing. They simply have done nothing so far that is worth talking about. No wheelies, no knee-down, no butt clenching late braking (not really a good thing), no nothing that is worth reliving over a coffee with your mates. So why go for the ride? Wouldn't it be far more comfortable to bring the car? Seriously, the car has hot and cold air, radio, CD's, all the luxuries you could ask for.
What got me to writing this was we went for a ride with 4 new guys last weekend and when we stopped for lunch all four of them spent 10 minutes solid sms'ing on their moblie phones while we sat there watching..at the same table I should add. After 5 more minutes of this I asked "what the fook are you guys doing? Put those things away, we're out for a ride you know!" They almost seemed put out. Either way I knew the ride was over as they were more interested in sms's than riding.
Does anyone else experience this or is it just a Brisbane, Australia curse type of thing? Is it a new generation of riders emerging that ride purely to get to the coffee shop?
Where's my anti-depressant box...
