I think you are right - WR does stand for Wide Ratio - but not for that model.
Probably only for the original 2 stroke WR250's.
I had a 92 WR250 and it gearbox was definitely wider than the YZ's of the time - It was pitched as a enduro model.
Maybe you could just get an old WR engine and place it in a YZ frame - oops - no thats what my WR250 was
