Origin of email sender

Is there a way to get information on a sender via thier email, for example the phone number which they use to connect to the internet. I realise that if its possible the number would probabaly be from a internet cafe.

I have a banking facility were I can accept credit card payment over the phone or email, have a buyer that has put forward several cards for a large payment all of which were declined. Buyer has come back to ask that I process smaller payments. The thing is I cannot loose as the goods are pick up only after payment has cleared, and if the payment was via a stolen card as long as it clears it is the banks problem. Can`t think of why this buyer is pursuing the purchase. The goods are Air Conditioning equipment , if I was a scammer I don`t think this type of purchase would be on my list

If the cards are stolen, the bank will recover it's funds from your account. At least here in the states they will...

Over here in SA we have all types of scams... Never know what the idea is...sometimes just getting some personal info from you, that they can use is the scam.. My advice, if it sounds too good to be true.. it normally is...

If the card is stolen its your problem, not the bank - read your merchant T&C's, they don't indemnify you against fraud. The bank or merchant services provider will do what called a charge back, they have 6 months to do it from the purchase date and it will hurt as they still take their transaction processing fee (Standard rate around 2.75%), charge you a "Charge Back Fee" and also deduct the total sum.

Your out of pocket and the bank still get their percentage, so much for credit card fraud being a victimless crime. There's some justification to the argument that banks/merchant service providers are benefiting from fraud because of them keeping the transaction percentage and charging the charge back fee.

It sounds dodgy mate, if not dodgy then pretty scrappy. I would polity tell the customer to get his shit together and come back. Let us know what the out come is, i'm intrigued.

In emails there is alot more info than you would normal be shown by your email client, there should be a [view headers] button, but this isn't going to go as far as a telephone number, just how the message was sent and what path it took to get to you, which will be useful to the anti fraud guys if it got to that
