Has anyone seen a bike that had such a short life? 2015 FJR1300 with 2, yes 2 miles totaled. RIP Yammie. They also have a 2014 KTM RC8 on the site with only 1100 miles. Lesson here, don't ride the big boy bikes when you can't even handle a moped, or don't show off for your girlfriend either.

I have seen worse.
Story one:
I once witnessed a deal on a bike at the pub for cash. Seller asked buyer: do you know how to ride these things? (before separate bike licenses)
Buyer: Sure had one before....
It was parked on an angle in front of the pub and when he took of he crashed it in the house across the road. Forks bend, didn't hurt himself (too badly), lots of laughter afterwards, ha good times...

Story 2:
New Yam XS1300 (remember those). Daddy just paid for daddies boy 18th birthday present.
Took of out of the shop's driveway, straight across the road (4 lanes) and in to the ditch on the other side. Not quite total but pretty bashed up (bike and ego). Total miles less than 1!
Lots of laughter from real bike riders, daddy not impressed, dealer sore jaw for days from trying not to laugh and looking sympathetic.

This one was not totaled. But it had less than 100 yards.

About 5 or 6 years ago a guy bought a Desmosedici (sp) from our local Ducati dealer. That was a $75,000 bike at the time. It was crashed on the way home from the dealer's.

While somewhat anectdotal, pretty much every large stealer in the US has some principal that's been around a while, that can tell you of at least one guy (if not several), who crashed their shiny new bike before the ink dried on the paperwork - usually within the first mile from the dealer.

I really don't know how it is in the rest of the world, but this is one reason why in the US demo rides can be somewhat elusive - liability form said events being perhaps the main reason.

It's a shame that so many bikes end up like this, as it also usually brings an abrupt end to the rider's usually very short avocation on a bike.

I crashed my GPZ 550 way back when. Took months to get it sorted and I had to borrow a tool from a mate about three miles away to do the last job. With that done I decided the first run should be to return the tool and....

Yes you guessed it, looking right at a slightly tricky junction I rode straight into the back of a Ford Capri wrecking the front end again. Total time on road, well not more than five miles.

Shit happens

My first ride on a motorcycle lasted 48 feet. I was in a friends driveway, pointed toward the road, let out the clutch with plenty of throttle input, somehow ended up smashing into his mom's washing machine in the garage
I have only improved slightly. I had an FJR1300 that I set in a precariously placed position, which fell over after I had walked away from 4 meters, hearing a crash I turned around to find, upon subsequent determination, $1700.01 of damage.
Due to the fact that I had not been operating it, my insurance paid without a deductable I hated that bike. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if I have owned any motorcycle that went without a nap or two in my ownership.
