To put the British pothole thing in perspective I will state the following.

I commute to work mostly on a Yamaha twist and go 125 scooter type abomination. (but it's a great commuter machine) and very cheap to run The potholes in this country are so bad because of the lack of investment and poor repairs. In London the roads after this winter's frost are really appalling. I'm now on my third set of fork seals for the Yamaha in five years and a lot of this is because of hitting holes that are at times six inches sheer deep in the road surface. They could throw you over the handlebars if you hit them unaware. (the other reason is speed humps but that's another story).

I'm on a mission to sue a London council for the cost of repairing my forks and replacing my rear shock - just for the hell of it. So I carry around a little plastic ruler and If a ever hit a pothole really bad I stop and take a photo of the hole with the ruler in it and a picture of the road and conditions. I'm waiting for a real beauty - the mother of all potholes. I don't really need to have hit it bad - just see it and I'm going to get the picture, lay the bike down and get a picture of it on the floor, get a witness to sign up to the fact that there is a great big fooking HOLE in the road and then start the process of CAUSING THEM AS MUCH SHIT AS POSSIBLE!

Something needs to be done about this. Mt ex wife is Californian so I have spent a lot of time out in the States. Man....your roads are like RACETRACKS! Our roads are like MOTOCROSS tracks!!! That's why I spent five years on a KTM Supermoto - to be honest the best machine for London road conditions.

Here in the great NE US after this winter I have some holes for you Bic ,, a ruler just won't do it bro,, the holes are deadly,, three weeks ago I cracked a rim on me Vee-Vo and of course a flat, next day they filled it , but now it's a foot wider in all directions and I would say six inches deeper , (about 10 -12 inches now) thought of the same recourse as you but here it would take until next year at this time at least all the main roads here are a racetrack , but the windey roads I love are nothing more than colonial wagon paths with 12- 16 foot of pavement for width, lot's of stone wall "run-off" room, ie:none not like So. Cal. , this year will be a slow first ride out to find those killer holes,,,gonna have to ride her like a MX bike, keep a light front end fer sur,,,,

Comparing Califaornia with the UK isn't really fair Bic They don't tend to have the crazy two winters we have just had. Didn't it hit -15 a few times in London? That freeze-thaw action with fook up any road with a crack in it. I actually don't think the roads are as bad this year as they were last. That could however just be me getting used to the shitness you have to dodge The EXC loves a pothole Unfortunately the tyres don't like the tarmac and disappear in no time at all

London roads are the reason i have started commuting on a FMX 650 its slow but it can cope with the holes ... that and the full arrow system make loads of noise
