SD fuel economy vs train is NOT looking good these days

Bloody hell,

as some of you may know I commute a LOT on my SD, it's my only bike and I've done about 17000m on it in the year I've had it. Every mile was a winner but I always had that nice warm feeling knowing that I was also saving money compared to the train. Now with the daily raping I get at the garage till it's actually costing me money to take the bike!

I'm seriously considering getting another machine for the commute but dont know where to start really. To make it pay it'd have to get a MIN 50mpg on an even mixture of A roads and motorway....and if I'm gonna do then it may as well be faired and comfy (shudders at the thought). My first inclination is a Honda Dullville or maybe the VFR800 but what kinda of mileage do they get?

Any ideas?

I could go for a 125cc to really save dosh (did it for 10 months when learning) but that's an absolute last resort...it's that or take teh fuggin train !!

75mpg??? Blimey! I had no idea it was that good!

If I can find an old one going cheap then i could save a fortune....how good is the VFR?

I naturally revert to Honda as my local dealer is a gem but frankly if there was a KTM that could get me that then I'd gladly go for it

The new Yamaha WR250X (Supermoto) gets around 70mpg, and I'll bet the (UK/Europe only) XT125X gets nearly 100mpg. Forget scooters. They'll wind up putting roofs on them anyway.

In mpg it looks much worse than litres/100km (My car goes ca. 24mpg)
So what are the numbers with 05 and 07 SD?
