My Dad was in wwII fighting the Japanese he passed away getting on 8 years ago now but I remember one time how he was telling me how stupid war is and that the mates he fought with that died fighting would turn over in there graves if they new how things turned out.
He said, The Jap's won the war really.
As for the lancaster bomber I would have hated to be the rear gunner it was so tight in there the gunner couldnt wear a parachute and as the fighters usually attack from the rear that would suck big time and just think most of the dudes who fought in the war were just kids in there teens.
My wifes grand father was a tail gunner on a B-17 , he survived 27 missions over Germany, and he went through 3 crew's , everyone had been killed but him, always a couple on a mission, gotta respect a guy like that,,hated the NAZI'S ,, he reciently got to go up in one of the only surviving planes left in existance that still fly today,,they let him get right up in the cockpit ,,for a one hour flight ....,,I had two of my uncles that were in the D-day invasion, one at OMAHA and one at UTAH, my uncle Joe cried uncontrolably every memorial day for many years until his death in 06,,he never could talk about it,,,, what if we hadn't won that war and that nut-case had taken the British isles,,,,NY would have been next,,, that guy was so full of hate,, thank god we stopped him,,,
Some of Englands best fighter pilots were from foreign countries such as Sqadrone 303 made up of Polish pilots. Unfortunatly the Poms shit on them at the end of the war when Poland was handed to Stalin.

One of my staunch biker mates was so pissed off that I bought an Austrian bike "you should never buy a bike from a country that lost world war II, that includes Italy Japan Germany and Austria" he said, I countered with "Austria was on our side, dont you remember the Von Trapp family?"
