Is this the typical standard of rider ability in the US

Nah, the guy on the SV just hates visiting Brits.

Shit that's Mulholland Drive - only LOCOS ride that thing and crashes every day there . People hang out there just to catch the crashes .... Seems there's always some sand somewhere on the road that Bites riders......
But you may have something about US ........ I have a area i ride to all the time ( it's my go to spot for great riding ) Alices Restaurant in woodside Ca. Every weekend the firetrucks head out - some biker down in the twisties..
anyway - none of this applies to me of course

I saw this video earlier this week, but didn't realise it was tourist brits riding the bicycles. It kind of makes sense now, since no sensible local would ride that road. Mullholand is kind of famous for squids and rubs crashing especially in that one turn where the video camera is always setup to video crashes on the weekends. I wouldn't be surprise if Jay Leno has crashed there a few times. Sure, everyone has a right to the road, but in this case it's like the tourists who go surfing out at Bolinas point in Marin, then act surprised that a shark bit them. One of the new trends we have to deal with around where I live are the skateboard kids bombing the twistys only to find themselves either run over or run off the road. I don't know what they are thinking, is it like "hey, lets find some cool roads to ride on", "ok, i hear all the motorcycle canyon racers check pashnit.com for the best roads, lets pick one of those".

Said it before lycra makes you invincible, mostly in the mind. What a woes that cyclist he must be playing soccer too and stayed down till the referee pulled a red card and then walks away. Sorry have no patience for cyclists in lycra, one of them takes up more space than a truck ususally in the middle of the road. Piss poor on the biker also didn't even go that fast, he was planning this or so?

Before any-one says anything, I do sometimes use my road bike to go to work. But there is a rather wide cycle path that runs parallel to the road that I use and it pisses me off when other cyclist don't use it, but go on the road instead!

Because you crash a lot.

Why do some stick up for push bike riders? I like push bikes and I used to ride one to work every day but it just seems like common sense to me not to ride a push-bike on the road or am I missing something? When riding to work 5ks I would always stick to the side walk as I didn't fancy getting run over. If you think logically and keep it real who here would ride a 50cc Scooter on the highway? It just seems logical to me that if you are riding on the HWY or main road that you have a big chance of being run over as you are going a lot slower that the traffic if you think this is wrong just think for a minute.... Would you walk or run on the Highway? Or even sit in lounge chair in the same position? No of course not if you sat there on a chair people would think you are crazy! As for the Moto rider hitting those bikes well that was dumb but if the Push-bikes were doing the speed limit it would not have happened!!

of course they had a "right" to be there. but theres no accounting for bad judgement. thats just a foolish place to ride a bicycle and you are seeing the consequences of their decision.
