V-twin track bike

I let a friend of mine ride my bike through some twisties this morning - He only did about 200km, but is now dead set on getting a v-twin track bike. He's got an 04 z1000 to commute with, but has fallen in love with the v-twin feel...

He's looking for reliability first, and performance ahead of looks, and is on a budget. This will be a dedicated trackday bike - and a 2nd hand SD won't do, he wants a fairing. He's looking at the Honda SP2 or 03 Mille R (we have a common friend who has scared him away from the later models).

Are there any other options available? Ducati is out (he just won't). And he's not sure about the TL1000R, but maybe people could give hints how to 'get it right'?

Any ideas? Anyone here owned a v-twin trackbike that could steer him in the right direction? He's one of the quickest B-group riders on his pilot road-shod Z1000, so he knows how to ride.

EVERY person who rides a bike should own a 916 in their lifetime.

That should without discussion be his choice.

Get an SMC supermoto bike. MUCH more fun, and easier to fix when (not if) it hits the ground.
