First up this is definitely not a whinge about Superdukes thread. As I abso-frikking-lutely love mine Rather I was curious to see what you guys have had break or malfunction on your SD's. (original parts only)

My broken bits list.. EDIT updated now

- Clutch slave piston broke
- O ring on oil filler plug squared off and had to be replaced
- gasket between rear header pipe replaced twice
- rear header pipe flange that sits into the header snapped off the short pipe
- stock pipe split 8cms where the s-bend is under the engine
- oil pressure switch failed
- coolant leak under resevoir tank where small hose attatches
- water pump under warranty
- oil pump under warranty
- starter motor under warranty


Seems a lot, but I love that bright orange bitch waaay too much to even say a bad word about it

All the above, well, tis a small price to pay for what it gives me in return

Nothing on the SD had broken, but I did break the law in my old saloon once or twice.....

The XT 600/Tenere I am building/restoring is a GIANT list of broken/worn out bits. Makes me appreciate the quality of the KTM design.

#1: Instrument cluster. (but get this, the original had nota wrong? and the 2 other new ones were both flawed!) true dat.?

just lived with the speck. representative dealer never called me back as promised.

(btw decision rested on ktm na's decision to not address this any further, aka gave up).

#2: Exhaust fumes... Plipton says wind eddies.?!? (still have it).

#3: Proper maps, probably guessing but.... a work in progress?

#4: crap thee.... metinks dats it?....

Never had a better machine with this much personality... although

joe is loosing confidence in the LC8 daily... less I can 'Feel' the beast.

Nothing yet on the SDR but on the LC4 Enduro ....

Rego plate ... metal fatigue from the vibration
Gear lever ... got airborne and went off the track and came down on a stump
Rear tail piece and rego plate ... 2nd gear wheelie and flipped
Cracked head ... inlet valve through to exhaust valve
Couple of spokes on motard rims ... hit a couple of culverts flat stick - deeper than I thought
front mudguard ...."plastic" fatigue from the vibration
Front brake hose ... kinked when I tried my hand at a motorcross training weekend and the jumps got seriously scary

74 Norton Commando ----what hasn't broken
both bikes I love to bits, believe it or not both bikes are eceptional handlers with loads of grunt but the SD = Commando x 3

Nothing broken here either.
However the battery goes flat in about 7 days.

I've hooked it up to the car a few times.

Ever tried clutch starting on of these? Just impossible.

joe's single largest trouble with this bike by far is the constant state of Ecstasy it keeps me in,

tickets and warnings... middle fingers all taken in stride, mind.

My Oil sight tube got a small crack at the top and leaks. I thought it was me having a bit too much oil when topping up (somehow creating too much pressure...or something ). But realise from this thread others have the same problem. So was it be me topping up too much...or is it a warranty thing

Besides that:
-Jerky clutch, warranty replaced master cylinder
-Water inside instrument panel, warranty replaced

And a lot of plastic, frame bent, well most everything. Motor survived though In fact the whole bike was replaced by the insurance company
