I was actually super lucky cause it only pierced the tyre wall, could ride it home (tyre is still inflated this morning). Took a bit of plastic off the chain guard but no damage to the chain I could see! Had to stop and take a brick I found on the side of the road to hammer it out as well!

I didn't ride home with it in! I hammered it out by the side of the road! Was just glad it only went through the tyre wall!
gotya, I was a bit confused when you said you rode it home but also that you knocked it out, I didn't realise it literally didn't even get into the air filled part of the tyre.
Not just the hard shoulder though mate, I did this at Cadwell a few weeks ago
