Hello All,

Another BMW defector (fully-farkled F650GS) about to join your ranks. Recently put a deposit on a bone-stock '08 SD to celebrate the end of my 4th and final all-inclusive romp in the sandbox. I am very much looking forward to putting the SD through its' paces back home in the SoCal mountains.

I truly enjoyed the beemer - racked up 36K miles on the clock in 2 years, but have been pining for something with more...soul. After much hand-wringing, 6 months of research, and a cautiously optimistic thumbs-up from the missus, I am confident the SD will fit the bill perfectly.

Happy riding.

I bought my SD in Temecula and broke it in on Palomar. Its a great choice for the area. There are quite a few of us in So Cal. Hit us up when you get back so we can personally show you our appreciation for your service.

First and foremost...THANK YOU for your service, ALL of you!!
Welcome and wishing y'all a safe return home.
I too have defected to the street side of the marque...rode/raced the dirt models in SoCal back in the early 80's.
Palomar Mountain Road....I knew it well, was stationed at Warner Springs in 70-72 and we rode the daylights out of
the area on 2 strokes.

Welcome to the nuthouse.

I'll be out there during the summer, missing out on the biking season back here

Funnily enough, I bought mine when I got back from my first tour (plus spent a long time looking at them whilst out there)....

major kudos for the military guys.

have fun with the bike - just be prepared to keep the rear rubber supply - might be a good idea to buy stock in Dunlop or something haha

cheers

Thanks for all the well-wishes, guys. Currently living the good life at Camp Bastion (aka the Happiest Place on Earth) for a few days. If only you knew how awesome it feels to hear female voices again - especially the Brits, Fins, and Swedes! The looking is hit-and-miss, though.

Then we're off to exotic central Asia for a few more days. Fingers crossed that we will be "authorised" 2 beers per day at that point. God forbid the folks that can't handle their suds make proper arses of themselves, pay the price for it, and learn a lesson or 3. Oh, well. C'est la vie.

I will definitely be looking to get together with those of you in SoCal for a ride in a few weeks. I will have to use 45 days of vacation between then and the end of Sept, and plenty of missed riding time to make up for. I will be heading directly to Palomar from the dealer to give the old girl an inspired flogging, as long as it is a Tue-Thu. I swore off riding there on weekends a long time ago.

Then, to knock the rust off, I will be signing up for every intermediate/advanced course I can get the military to pick up the tab for. Already on the list for ARC, American Supercamp and a track day. Evidently the CHP can open up excess slots at their Motorcycle Officer course for military rider coaches, so I will be doing everything in my power to weasel my way into that. Heard that will make your clutch hand into a quivering mass of Jell-O after the second day.

Well, off to download a copy of "Twist of the Wrist II" for the plane ride(s). Cheers.
