I'm in the market for a SD so thought I'd join the forum to find out wots good and bad about them I'll be on the look out for the 2008 onwards as it has as u know a bigger tank and a better range , at the moment I ride a Kawasaki ZRX1200R which is a great bike as well anyway I'm off to have a look around...

shame you're after a newer one though, if you were looking for one of the best examples of the faster, better steering earlier models, I've got mine up for sale in Preston - not as far from Scotland as some places!

Strange u say ur from Preston as thats where my ZRX came from last yr... good luck with ur sale but for me it has to be the bike with the bigger tank as theres not many petrol stations around when we ride op north and the earlier bikes don't have much of a tank range maybe 70-80 miles which is no good to me the newer bike has 4 litres more which gives u a bit more confidence...

Mine is for sale right now, its an early one but I do have a late tank included in the sale and its a fairly easy swap. I had an 08 before and I prefer the early version. The only thing is the smaller tank.

Looks like a good road that. I might give it a look if I go down near there again, I did a route round Loch Ness a couple of weeks back and turned back across east at Spean Bridge so shouldn't be too much of an add on if I do that ride again.

I'm just up the road from you, near stirling.

Usually haunt Sma Glen area or Dukes Pass for a quick blast. Or tracknights at Knockhill. Never been up as far as Maliag. Superduke can do it all though, stunting, trackdays, tight B roads, fast A roads, and can cover a big whack of touring miles with comfort. Never would have believed there was such a complete all round bike out there. And from a mechanical view its super simple and well engineered. You'll love it!

And to think I nearly bought a Tuono too

We've done a bit of the dukes pass (mind u, u have to keep an eye out for gravel in the road up there... ) we normally start in Balloch for breakfast then head to Aberfoyle up over the dukes pass to Callander and onto the Green welly to refuel and a cuppa and then onto Inverary thats only a short run for an afternoon it's only 93 miles or we head to Oban for a run as the road down from the welly to Oban is also a good road.....

There was one run we did and it was a monster of a run (up and back all in was 325miles... ) we started at my m8's place in Dumbarton and headed up to Onich just outside of fort William and caught the ferry across to Ardgour (only take 5 mins & £2) and then did the scenic route (beautiful country views) u can't really go that fast on these roads as their only tracks enough for one car but have plenty of pull ins to pass on couple nice pubs and cafes to stop at and before u know it ur on the Mallaig road yahheeeee it's only 40miles long but it gives a whole new meaning to twisties....

U can go to the most westley point in Scotland this way once u have caught the ferry across to Ardgour follow the road all the way to Salen it might help if u have a sat nav so u can plan the route (the only thing I'd say with this run is stop as much as possible and start as early as possible

Welcome. I'm not trying to sell you anything and just make the observation that a lot of people seem to prefer the earlier models. I like the styling of the later headlight cover more but am I'm not so keen on the clocks. The tank range has never been a problem for me on my 2006's (I've got two) as I seem to run out of adrenaline (and need a coffee) way before the fuel runs out

I suppose I'd better get myself a test ride and make my mind up then for it's not so much flat out everywhere because u can't I mean u get past something only to maybe get caught up again with traffic , then if ur in town well ur in town.... thats why we disappear up north as theres less traffic so 180-200miles is not unheard of for us just a typical weekend (maybe sat/sunday) run....

After a bit of research I'm off to view a 990 Superduke next week, an 08 model. I've admired the model from when they first came out. Owned 640 Duke 2 for a while and my pal had a 990SM which I've done a few miles on. Not my only bike so it will be a pure toy(arnt they all?) I'll update next week all being well

A new KTM owner here from just north of Aberdeen, Scotland.

I've just bought a 1290R special Edition. Only had it a few days but managed a couple of hundred miles on it. It's got some grunt!

My other bikes aren't short of poke, but this thing is just a bit more nuts.
