Hi Peeps!!! from north Queensland

Hi Peeps,
Glad to be accepted into this forum. I don't actually own a duke yet but am looking at a couple to purchase at the moment and was hoping for some help.
There is no question that i'm buying a 990 super duke (would love a 1290 but the budget won't stretch that far) i am just hoping for some insight to help choose between the super duke or the super duke R.
Both are 2008 models both the same price range. Unfortunately i have to buy interstate which means i am unable to view or test ride either of the bikes i'm looking at.
I love the look of the R and i think i can deal with the single seat just not sure how it will perform on the road compared with the standard. I have read a few reviews saying the suspension on the R is a bit rough for general road use.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tap, welcome to the forum mate.
Not sure there is too much difference between the SD and the SDR, engine has a little more and maybe a little more firmer ride but would think not heap between them.
Probably the most noticeable difference is the seat, SDR is less comfortable than the SD but looks more than make up for it.
Anyway, plenty on here to help you out and the forum has the 990 well covered.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think i am definitely swinging towards the SDR it just looks so much better and not being able to carry a pillion might not be such a bad thing. Are there any issues with the 08 SDR i should be looking for it only has 17,000km on the clock and all the mods already done.

I know of one very good 2009 990 SD for sale (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=27866), shame that it'd cost you about the same again to get it home...
Anyway, I hope you find yourself a good one and have many happy miles/km on it painting the world orange. Let us know how you get on...

Nice looking duke scotty i wouldn't want to know the freight cost. Thanks No. 47 that answers some questions for me. I think the 08 SDR is a good choice. I will update with some pics when i finally get to appreciate my new beast in person.

I went for an SD. Much more suited to my riding needs. My mate had a 2011 and then a 2012 SDR and theres not much between them for everyday riding.
His had much stiffer suspension though (obviously).

Looks good DukeNukem999 but i think i have my heart set on a SDR. Only problem is finding a good one at the moment. I had my eye on a 08 black SDR but unfortunately i was a day too late and it sold before i could pull the trigger. There is still one i'm considering but the price is a bit higher and it's white so i might just hold my cash for now and keep looking.

There's nothing wrong with a white one... stand out from the crowd a bit, be different (even more different than being a SuperDuke rider )

So to update i have finally purchased my Duke. After searching for a couple of months for a good full fat SDR with no real luck i ended up settling for an 07 SDR so standard motor but i'm sure the performance of the standard motor will still be more than enough to satisfy my inner hoon. It's due to arrive by freight 2nd October so now i wait. Will post some pics once it arrives.
