Hi everybody,
im picking up my 07 SDR nextweek.Yes i would of prefered the 08 but ive got it for a really good price and its only done 2500mls and mint.
The thing is what do i need to buy for the best mods.
Please understand this is all new to me but i keep hearing about various items and just wondered which are the best and which dont work.
PC111,02,illiminators,motobox air filter setup, cans"must admit i like the carbon yoshi's",and different butterflies to name a few.
Any advice appreciated.
Exhausts, Motobox and Tune ECU, PC3 is a waste of money now as the Tune ECU costs next to nothing and does exactly the same, have a look at the thread.

They are the 3 main things everything else when you get round to it.
I have an 07 SDR too. Basically what you have bought is a standard SD with a nice orange frame, a couple of nice extras and a free sore arse thrown in.

I would be suprised if yours doesnt already have cans. So next to get is a Motobox and Tune ECU. I am waiting for Ash's bike to blow up, if it doesnt then raising the rev limit is worth doing.

Then, you have about 115bhp with no dips in the power curve. Depending on who you ask the 08 SDR's have about 10 - 15bhp more. All up the top end and I have never really seen one that looked quicker than a well sorted 05/06 SD. The 06 battle bikes were putting out 130bhp as I recall.

My plan next winter is to get my bike into Bob Farnham for blueprinting and a bit of top end work. That should give a usable 130bhp for less than the cost to change to a later SDR.

I am going to Bob Farnham's again next week so I will try to get a run down of what he was doing to the battle bikes.

I would suspect bueprinting helps. Get two big SD pistons and if they dont weigh the same the engine is fighting itself from the outset.

Raise compression a little, maybe a thinner headgasket?

Advance the ignition, I think Klincky is tinkering with this on Tune Ecu as we speak.

Schanuzer was saying the 08 SDR's were rumoured to have lighter valve springs (titanium?) It is unlikely they do but it certainly wouldnt hurt for an aftermarket tuner to use them on an 07 SDR.

Raising the rev limiter should give a bit more as every Dyno operator has told me the SD rev limiter cuts in too early.

Finally, keeping the bike upright is something we should all be working on. It is hard to evaluate performance gains on track when none of us can do a whole session without crashing.
Hi Luke,
look forward to reading your results when youve been to Bob Farnhams.
And the costs
I've got an uncrashed 07 SDR which i've owned from new and so far the only performance type mod's made has been the addition of akra can's + map and a DNA air filter. I'm planing on adding a Motobox soon but only because it make's the bike easier to work on ie plug's and valve clearence's.

I dont get hung up on the BHP difference between an 07 and an 08 +,in the 17000 mile's covered the later SDR's that i've encountered have'nt appeared any faster than mine through the corner's No doubt in a straight line they would be faster but i dont do tyre shredding straights so the extra BHP would be wasted on me
My main reason for getting an SDR was the uprated suspension, steering damper and the looks.

Enjoy your 07 mate it's an awesome tool

I say the motobox is a very good mod. If you do this mod, change the secondary butterflies at the same time.
And another great mod will be an exhaust. Just the weight savings alone is big.

I'm happy to hear that you can get same results with Tune ECU as pcIII as it will be saving me cash$$ but If so why are the bikes mapped smoother and better from the factory?? Can you make the throttle less snatchy with Tune ecu. Sorry to HI-JACK the thread!!

ps. my best mod - SPROCKETS!! 41T Rear..
I also have a 41 T sprocket... And it helps My bike zooooom... And help hooliganism.
Of course when you have done all those mods getting the panels painted white like an 09 / 10 SDR could be quite nice too.

I love the Motobox, so don't get me wrong.....
If you are going to ride hard on twisties or the track, you must get the Nichols triple and shock clevis.

My order of mods would be:
1. Exhaust-you need to shed the 20 lbs or so that monstrosity holds underneath the seat.
2. A competent dyno/map/TuneECU tuner because your bike WILL be running lean. Don't underestimate the effect of this!
3. 520 chain conversion using stock gearing. I lost almost 4 lbs doing this. You can feel it!
4. Motobox- Just because it sound KILLER! Also makes the bike breath better. Down side will be the need of a new map so maybe this should be #2?
5. Hi Tech battery like the Shorai or equivalent. This will shed over 3 kilos!

Now you can move on to comfort and bling.
