mine was snatchy and had horrible on/off effect. Some days it was like the FI had a mind of its own, like cutting the engine when I was opening the thottle or revving up when I was holding constant throttle in the middle of a roundabout.
I had no confidence whatsoever in the bike.
Now with Akra Evo (no cats), DNA filter and KTM akra-map everything is much much better.
So much better in facts that it feels like a different bike altogether.

#11We ride in the mountains here in Colorado and a throttle surge at the wrong time could mean going over a 400-foot cliff instead of a roundabout mishap.
I actually came to superduke.net a couple of days ago with trepidation, having posted on audiworld.com for years. I know that on sites like this you hear much more negativity because the satisfied people aren't the ones talking the most. That said, this seems like a deal-breaking safety issue.
Will it take someone getting killed to get KTM to do something about it?

#14Having said that, the biggest change I have seen in two SD'S (07 SD & new 08 SDR) was the powercommander plus custom map.
Powercommander with downloaded maps was better than anything stock or re-mapped from KTM.
However, the stagged dynoed custom map (need full tank of gas) made the 07 SD smooth as silk. Dealer still says it is the smoothest SD he has ever road (he is currently ridding o8 SD with Akros).
I put the PWC III with the 07 custom map on the 08 SDR a couple of weeks ago and also changed the rear sprocket (38-40). The bike felt as smooth as the 07 with power of the 08 SDR.
The 08 SDR is currently being remapped (using the custom map created for the 07 SD they do not anticipate it should be that off but it will be interesting based on difference in the engine upgrades)wanted to check for any possible lean or rich spots.
You can try all the maps available (mine included) but if you spent the $ to have a SD or SDR you owe it to yourself to get it mapped by an expert.
Cost = PWC III, TUNE BOY, whatever and a custom map is less than a set of cans and the difference is BY FAR YOUR BIGGEST BANG PER BUCK (no less than shocking).
By the way:
My KTM dealer sticks a rod up the arse of the 07 SD and says the readings WERE great, dont change a thing. After I had it dynoed by an expert the mechanics showed me the difference on the map and it was way too lean on the bottom and way too rich on top). My dealer and his Dad are GREAT people, true friends and would do anything for you, however it is their JOB. For most guys on this forum this is OUR PASSION thus I ask for custom map from dynoe pro.
I am a 60 y/o white haired grandpa so I am not a racer nor do I try to be, or want to be but I AM PASSIONATE AND INTENSE IF I GET INTO SOMETHING and have always loved experimenting with my dirt bikes ( Recluse clutch, pipes, trials tyres (love in the single track).
Just my opinion but I appreciate all I have learned from this site and like to give back what I can.
TAKE WHAT YOU WANT AND THROW THE REST AWAY!
SEMPER FI AND BE SAFE. STUPID HURTS!

#16My 07 SDR is very snatchy/responsive especially in first trundling through town, but i just slip the clutch and rely on my throttle control.
I've owned my 07 SDR now for 15 months and even now i have to give the throttle loads of respect in the first two gears, any ham fisted throttle imputs while cranked over or in a straight line in town at slow speeds the bike lets you know.
I have'nt ridden an 08 SDR so cannot give an informed comment on it. but as far as the 07 SDR is concerned i just love it and would'nt change a thing apart from more grunt
I sincerely hope you all get it sorted one way or another

#21After the V4 RSV Aprilia are planning a V4 Tuono for 2009 / 2010.
KTM better get all the problems fixed or plan for zero SD sales once that is out.

#24I have added the Acra's, filter, 1st-2nd limiter removed, SAS removed, and a map from the dealer for the 08 SDR with slip-on.
My bike is the greatest!!! I win!

#27I have attached a printout from the Dyno test with 10% throttle.
Look at the fuel/air ratio, and look what happens around 4000 rpm. Shows how important it is to make more than just a full throttle test. Nobody goes with full throttle all the time.
I solved the problem with a PCIII, as i am sure everybody in the Battle series have done as well. Saying that i only ride the bike between 5500 and 9000 rpm (only on the track), but there was still a big difference after i had it adjusted on the Dyno.
There is some issues, that's for sure.
Dyno (Blue: before adjustment, Red: after adjustment):
10% throttle:
Full throttle:
