2008 SDR Burning Oil ?

Ok, I have just over 1400 miles on my SDR. It run great. But after about 300 to 400 miles I have to add anyware from half quart too a full quart of that expensive Ktm oil. Am I the only one whith this problem.

My last bike was a inline four. It never burned oil. Is this a twin thing. Or do I have a problem and need to start a warranty claim. It dyno 125hp at the rear wheel.

Lots of SDs use some oil and apparently KTM says that is normal (although some report not using oil). I've had to add about 2 liters total over 13,000 miles. I don't remember anyone reporting using anywhere near as much oil as you. I'd get it checked.

1) Pulling long (ie > 1/2 mile) wheelies often blows oil out of the engine into the airbox ............ Guilty ?.

2) Make sure you are checking the level per the owners manual. It's a dry sump engine so the level has to be checked just after the engine has stopped running. You would be amazed how many people just top up the oil when it looks to be too low after the engine has sttod for a while - it then goes out of the overflow and so they top up again thinking the engine had "used" oil.

3) Engines use a little oil when running in from new as the internal surfaces mate together. Oil consumption cannot be realistically quantified with less than 1000 miles on the clock.
