Appears to be an updated version of the 1290 coming out next year.
Hard to tell from the pic but looks like new lights, front cowl and tail tidy.

Spy shot of the 2017 baby Duke might give a better hint on where its heading.

The fook is up with that headlight. Looks like they're doing the same thing to the SDR that Ducati did to the Monsters headlight.
And peeps complain that the original 1290 head light is fugly.
If I was designing the 'Beast' there would be other animal imagery that I would use for inspiration.

Not an Ant!

yep looks like a step backwards, even the rear subframe looks strange without the covers. Im glad i have the earlier version.
Kiska in an early interview about the 990 used the praying mantis as the description of the design. I like the look. To each his-her own. Different hits for different trips. KTM certainly has a "look" and in most cases it is a look I can connect with.
Don't care for the split headlight look but would be annoyed by:

Cruise control
Quickshifter
Cornering ABS
Mirrors that work all the time

You know, the aesthetic feature that I always find attractive about the SD or SDR is the matching curves of the radiator covers and the chin fairing (Battery cover). On the 2014+ SDR they have been making the rad covers pointy and even pointier in the SDR GT and the 2017 SDR's.

Hey KTM, if you can reel back the pointy-ness, you will likely sell more bikes. Like Bic said earlier, no need to get inspired by ants faces.

I could not care less. The 1290 is such a beast that unless the new bike is a lot lighter then I won't even give it a thought. Lighter is always better, but with this much power, I don't care about more, or different looks, or electronics. It's beyond what I ever dreamed nakeds would achieve.
Since I have a QS on my 1290 all I'd like is better electronics especially on-the-fly changes. As for tail tidy changes, does anyone keep the stock shovel on? Everyone commented "what is that" before I installed the fender eliminator.
