Was on an early morning run to the Rock Store and had just turned on to Las Flores. The ocean was smooth and calm and it was looking like a great day! Pulled over before the twisties to take out my jacket liner (that's right...it's warm in SoCal finally!) when all of a sudden I have hot radiator fluid all over the inside on my left leg! I decide to turn around and head home. There goes my perfect ride day. I nurse her home checking the fluid level several times. Turns out one of those damn 3 cent POS hose clamps KTM uses broke on the hose at the top of the thermostat. I can't belive my bad luck! A standard hose clamp never would have gone bad! I'm now on a mission to replace all the stock POS clamps with standard ones. I knew I didn't like the look of those things the minute I saw them. Damn 3 cent part ruins a perfect day. Oh well...at least it's a simple fix.
3 cent part ruins my day...

#2Bummer. At least it happened before you got to the serious twisties which could have been substantially more dramatic.
Just got my bike buttoned up and will be itching to go for a ride soon! Will be posting pics shortly.

#3You missed a great day's riding. A friend and I started in Camarillo, up Potrero to Decker, through the Malibu hills to Mulholland, over to Stunt, down Rambla Pacifica (REALLY treacherous (oil and gravel)) to PCH up to Latigo then home. Summer may finally be here!!

#4Ugh! I know...it was unreal today...perfect weather. I have a nice scald on my left leg to remember how much I detest those crap hose clamps! I will be ready for next weekend!!!

#5Bob,
I'm pretty sure this is in direct relation to your motor swap. The new clamp either wasn't installed properly or they tried to reuse the old one.
Definitely a good idea to go the worm-drive clamp route.

#6Yea John, that's what I was thinking as well. I do have a question...is there anything I need to do or simply install the new clamp and let her run while getting the coolant level back up?

#7You could do that and just top up the rad and overfill res as needed or you could perform the bleed process (ie; lifting front of bike 20" or so).
