990 done... well... different...

All you riders that moved on to the 1290 you obviously didn't consider simply making the 990 into a cafe racer....

And I'm glad I didn't.

That is really not my ice cream flavor.

Yup. They normally churn out some pretty cool looking bikes but when I saw this one I was dumbstruck....

Umm comrades: That's a very nice technical execution but as far as I'm concerned it looks like crap. In fact, it looks like like somebody got a panbrake for Christmas and just folded a whole lot of aluminium just to see what it could do... Yuk.

In the past many of us, perhaps the traditionalists, have admired the "Spirit of the Seventies" concept, but this new bike it awful. I hope it doesn't belong to Dutch.

Here's the link to the SOS concept for those that haven't seen it:

the SOS bike is nice. Reminds me of the Husq Villipen.

The belly pan is cool in concept with the exhaust being integrated. The rest of it is too boring and and ugly to not be painted. I pretty sure I could do better.

I agree - wanted to do something similar to RC8/1290 concept bike for some time now - will be contacting them to see if/how much to do similar using Replicast race belly pan as a starter.

Paint it flat black. Spray on some Oz clay-mud. Add some spikey bits and feathers (fur/skins?). They could then call it "Mad Max Edition".

I was amused by the seriousness and pretense exhibited regarding design details in the video. LMAO Seriously, do these guys actually ride motorbikes?

Seriously folks - the 990 really is a genius bit of design out of the box. Messing with it extensively invariably ends up hideous.

I would be more forgiving if that was some guys first attempt, done at home, and in a poorly equipped garage..
But the fact it was done professionally astounds me..

However if they improved on the belly pan shape but retained that under slung exhaust that could be a great after market item. I'd expect it to hinder performance though, generally when the "image designers" try to cafe racer a stock bike there is no consideration for how a part performs.
