So when you travel to France you have to take:
A warning triangle.
High Viz vest.
A breath test machine.
This is their best? Nothing else? I suppose something missing... Where is printed version from Constitution of France? Decibel meter? Tickets to Tour de France?
That's fine, I'll just take the scooter instead of the SD..

from the BBC....

The former government of President Nicolas Sarkozy, which gave the go-ahead to the new law, said it hoped 500 lives might be saved every year.
Motorists driving without the two breathalyser tests will be handed a fine of 11 euros
Under the rules, which exclude mopeds, drivers who fail to produce a breathalyser after 1 November will face a fine of 11 euros.

...... Zoomer it is!
I thought it was the law to drive pissed in France. All the locals seemed to do it, when I was last there (near Toulouse).
Yes it is still compulsory to drive pissed in France and to eat so much garlic that no gendarme will ever smell booze on your breath. However, you must now carry 2 breathalysers that no one will ever use alongside the high viz, warning triangle, and spare bulbs that no ever uses. On the plus side you can hide the radar detector that everyone uses under all this shit if you get a tug.
Tyranny is the natural state of man...

A silly-assed little bag is going to save 500 lives per year? Yeah right.

How about outlawing all the cigarettes the French smoke? Wine? Cheese? Salt? Motorcycles??? 13 people died skiing in my area last winter.
Geez, the majority is encumbered with this crap cuz an extreme minority is irresponsible? Of course you've always got tyrannical politicians more than happy to dictate us all... and make to many laws... F-em all!

In Cali. the state put up "Report Drunk Drivers" signs on the hi-ways. Some guy was driving around shooting them up with a shot gun. Turns out the guy was an off-duty Sheriff. His reasoning was signs weren't good enough so he was shooting them so there'd be additional patrol officers watching the signs and... catching drunk drivers. Insane.

The erosion of human freedom seems to be only constant I've been able to observe in my 52 years on this planet.
It seems that the owner of the breathalizer tests lobbyed to get this law passed and has now gone from close to belly up to hiring 100 new employees.
Self testing is better than traffic inspections. It pretty much eliminates the " I didnt know how drunk I was" statement.
Regulation is an evolving entity, Its bound to clog up sooner or later.
Regulation on regulations is where regulation will be relegated.

"The French government hopes that with breathalysers in every car, drivers who suspect they may be over the limit can test themselves and if necessary refrain from taking the wheel."

Because we all know that drunks act rationally.
