Adjustable Bar positions on the SDR?

#13Ok fellas... Just been out for a spin with the bars at position 2 (from the front) out of 4 possibilities (see above).
Originally the bike was set in position 4 - nearest the seat, - which from observation at my dealers seems to be how they come out of the showrooms as standard (unless anyone has seen different).
My bars are now 15mm further forward than before, but in terms of my riding position I didn't really notice much, and if I didn't know I'd moved the bars myself I probably wouldn't have noticed the difference.
But...
...What I did notice (assuming it wasn't my imagination) was a more direct feeling to the steering, especially at town speeds, making 90 degree turns and slow bends. My hands are now positioned more directly either side of the forks, and just forward of the steering stem, so it feels just a little easier to push the front into turns. It's not a revolution, but similar to getting new tyres - after your old tyre's profile has gone off.
Now I am also one of these people that thinks my bike is faster after a service - or even just a good cleaning - so I know that "riding feel" is as much abut the rider's state of mind as a bike's state of tune, and that we adjust to change very quickly, but the bike definitely felt better balanced in the turns. So...
For those of you that own a Superduke R, check out your bar position, and if it's set nearest the seat, I'd highly recommend trying the front positions instead. It takes ten minutes, and you'll only need a set of allen keys and a towel to rest the bars on.
Damn these bikes are good. ...Now, what else can I fiddle with???
