As a new owned of the SD I am still on a learing curve, but I have a question some of you more experienced owners may be able to help with.

Picked up the bike on Saturday and had the Akra slip ons fitted, on the 130 mile ride home, with wifie on the back, couldn't get away with the exhaust smell on her clothes when we got home.

Also noticed it on my rucksack since I've been using the bike for work this week although can't actually smell it while I'm riding, even slowly (I do occasionally!)

Is this a common thing ? If so do the original cans do the same because I had the Akra fitted before I bought the bike ?

Anyone else out there suffer from poisining ???

[humour Joe mode]Er, yes... I think I got that [/humour Joe mode]

This fume thing is a pain for those who suffer it. Quite seriously, I'm not small (just 1/2 inch off 6 feet and short legs/long body) and I never had this problem. Even with the bird on the back (a one-off-never-to-be-repeated event) there was no smell either on our togs or in the air.

It has to be the rider's shape causing disrupted air flow which sucks the smell back. The wider the rider maybe causing higher than expected low pressure zone over the rear of the bike???

Joe, try sitting further back or forward and see if that helps. Try a cushion under your butt to raise you up a bit for a mile or so and see if that cures it - obviously not a permanent cure but it might point you in the right direction.
plipton,
very valid and true point you so make,
last weekend I had gone on another 350 mile ride and
I was thinkin of this the whole time, I leaned forward most of the time,
and low and behold the low pressure zone must have been less cos the smell was not as bad.
I can even feel the heat from the bike swooshing up my back....
kinda hairy too, embarrassed everyone I was with,
a fat hairy dude with no shirt with his nasty sweaty ass in the wind, you can only imagine this, eh?
OMG that mental image makes me sorry I asked mate !!

I aint that big (15 stone, 6ft1in) but i will try to change my riding position to see if it helps, also need to fit a touring screen anyway for the winter so it may/may not help as well.

Thanks for the comments though, I think !!

well, as i said before, I dont get this problem, but just FYI, I'm 6'2'' and 13st5lb, but over 14st in my gear. I usually wear a backpack when commuting but dont on weekend blasts.

tbh, I dont even know what the exhaust smell actually smells like! (but I'm sure i dont get the fumes tho. )

say zen and all others,
I was started out on morphine then we went to dallotta for the pain but the correct date was 9/12 you know, the one after 9/11 when the evil engulfed the earth as we know it, it poured out..and there was much pain. that was felt by the multitudes. now I am on Advil. and listen this accident was not caused by the fumes.....Im calling it.........voodoo corkscrew.
