Almost started to consider Selling....

Had a bit of a tough year, financially and otherwise, having been made redundant twice in three years, and going from fulltime to contractor...

...plus I felt like my biking personality was changing...

These days I seem less interested in speed and outright perfromance (against other machines), and more interested in having as much fun as possible on a bike. Not just with the ride, but the banter, the culture, - the good bits - that don't involve pushing me and the bike to our limits every Sunday morning, and draining my bank account everytime someone mentioned a new go-faster mod.

As some of you may have noticed I went a bit quiet on here too. Partly cos of the pressures of contract work, but also cos I picked up this Ducati Sport 1000 and have been fettling it with the help of another dedicated forum. The bike is now much nicer to ride, and in terms of my key needs.; i.e. fun, fun and fun, it completely fits the bill. ...Plus it's a fanny-magnet and even old ladies smile at me on it....

So, the SDR has been parked in my bro's garage for 4 weeks, and finally I had time to ride up there and swap back for a trip down memory lane. My bro keeps offering to buy it from me (he is getting rid of a K1300R) and I was about to say yes - until this morning...

Yeeeeeha. What a blast. I've posted this all before (about a month ago) but yet again I had forgotten was a mad machine it was. The Duc1000 is quick, cos it's light. With race cans and race ECU, plus suspension tune and springs, it's power to weight ration, clip-on riding position and handling make it feel brilliant, plus, it has soul and character to rival the Katoom, but the KTM is surely the devil's own bike.

I turned from Steve McQueen to Brian Deegan in about 3 seconds. Get the fook out of my way grannie. Move over Range Rover. Piss of hippy cyclist. Cop this, pedestrian. Jesus. If I was a copper I'd have arrested myself. We're all bonkers.

I really have to try and keep this bike. Somehow.

I know. I ride with my wife a lot and take it easy... Then I start thinking awwe all I need is my SV650, maybe I should sell the KTM. Then I ride it by myself and holy fook it gets my back with goose bumps and adrenalin pumping. I love this thing...
So yes the "KTM Devil" has my soul too!!!
Possibly rent it to your brother for a couple years for $...

I'm one wheelie ticket away from no more license, so ya, I've considered selling, but it isn't going to happen. Took a year off working after loosing long time job and present employment is leaving me about 20 thou short of my previous position. I understand the financial problems.

I'll start playing with the suspension to try out the "comfort settings" and look into getting a throttle-lock for cruise-control to stay on the good side of the law while commuting.

Thought about getting a 690 or 630 but will probably go MT-60 front for some dirt road fun.

I got a big chuckle out of this. You were thinking about selling your SD because you're spending more time on your SC? And here I am in just the opposite situation: thinking of letting my SC go because I am having more fun on the SD. AND, I've got heaps of dosh tied up in my Ducati...

Yeah, they do that to you. I recently took mine to work and then to the KTM centre. It's just soooo much fun. It brings on the giggles without much prompting. Did the interim service myself too, and felt good to be "treating" the bike. As for fettling them, I've resisted. They're good out of the box, mine runs well and it all works - you don't NEED to fettle them. Granted maybe I've lucked out with my fuellling, but as stock (ahem, akras) the bike is good enough (i.e better than me)....

I have been looking at a Yamaha Super Tenere, trouble is the only way I can get one right now is to sell the SD.

Can't bring myself to do it, if I think much about selling I just take it for a ride. Wipes the bad thoughts from my mind.

Chalk and cheese I agree, but you actually find the SC easier to cruise on? Mine is modded to hell and back, but I never found it an easy riding bike even while stock. I'm assuming you've got the elevated clip ons om your bike?

Too bad you're over there in the big smoke, or I'd put you on my SC for a ride or two. Then you'd be able to see just how different (i.e. committed) one can feel.
