Am I wasting my time doing this?

I know a single bike can't be all things all the time and the SD certainly can't and it's this that makes me yearn for other machines..

Essentially I need an sd that can also cruise the motorway motorway without ripping my head off so that makes me look for alternatives..

Rc8r - will this be an involving ride as the sd is or will I stick it in 3rd and leave it there all day? I love the idea of this bike and if it could work for me I'd have it.. Will it be boring at sub 100 speeds?

Tuono - is there any weather protection at all? I've read the fairing does nothing at all for the rider..

1290 - too pricey, many issues

What's needed is an sd version of the smt

Why not get some bar risers and a larger windscreen?

I'll normally put 6 hours in the saddle on a saturday (around 400 miles) and not feel all that fatigued. However mine is stock as far as ergos go and I'm relatively young.

The RC8r is a sportbike, if you don't like the way the SD treats you I doubt it'll get better.

The Tuono is mental but the honeymoon only lasts 80 miles (Freedom miles, not sure what part of the world you're in).

I agree having multiple bikes for different purposes. If you want something more freeway/touring worthy why don't you get something that sits more upright and has a comfy saddle? If you want to stick with KTM than maybe get the Adventure.

I just picked up a f800gs to go along with the SD. The GS is my do everything non-spectacular bike... I like it When I want some torque I spend a day on the SD. The 1200gs looks like a 50 gallon drum on wheels and the KTM Adventure is just too much bike for me.

I signed up for hoity toity classes.
Damn farkling.

Get a Kawasaki H2. Then when you get back on the SD it will feel like a beautiful, smooth, ride all day bike that could eat up the miles at leisure!

H2 will not comfortably sit at any constant speed. It four strokes at nearly all legal cruising speeds. The SD is my version of a sensible, long distance tourer.

I dont trust your avatar, not talking about thinking pattern No you are not wasting your time, you are wasting your life. You are over analysing and not using your intuition. My subjective point of view. Read advice between the lines

I know the feeling... I have 3 airplanes, 1 can't do it all. Cessna 172 for my family, Piper Cub for slow and low and a Christen Eagle to act a damn fool.
I will tell you I have owned almost every type of bike including a 2014 Hayabusa and 2014 KTM Adventure R. All the bikes are gone now and my 1290 Superduke is 100% perfect. I do not want anything else. It hauls ass, does awesome wheelies and is the most comfortable motorcycle I have owned!

it certainly is quite a dilemma , nearly bought a tuono myself a few weeks ago.
It's a very focussed bike , probably too much for me at this time
ended up throwing in my 1190 ADV for something 25kg lighter and more importantly a 17" front wheel.

Frying pan to fire you may say , I do love the new SD but I lost £4K on the 1190 in 11 months and 8k miles
Didn't really fancy another dry bumming.

Ive just fitted the Ohlins SCU ( sky hook equivlant )and to be fair it handles really sweet. , got my AA membership sorted too
the system sounds great too , you can feel it in the ground and no dry clutch either , let's see how it goes

I can fly mine... To bad you can't play yours. Lol! Come to Texas and I will give you the ride of your life in the biplane. Just don't puke on yourself! It may get on my plane.[/quote]

They do everything big in Texas including braggadocio.
I would take you up on the offer but my plane washing days are over, you'll have to stick me in a garbage bag and poke two holes for just the eyes.
This was the year I fell in love with Texas. I will return.
You near Austin pig?
P.S. I just saw Gary Clark Jr. last weekend and he makes a great ambassador for your Great State.
