[quote="ttraynor"]A bit tired of getting beaten up on crappy roads on my SDR--our reality in Michigan. Wonder what anybodies thoughts are on this bike--especially if having experience on the SDR.
I have gold valves and lighter rear spring (170-185--I weigh 180# dressed) on the SDR and still, I am unsatisfied with ride and handling CONFIDENCE (feels disjointed front-to-rear still and bangs on sharp ridges).

This sounds familiar. Before you go out and buy another bike, consider this. Your SDR, even more than my SD is "Ready to Race". That means nice smooth tracks, not potholed/broken roads. Your suspension is set up for the track. That 170nm-185mm spring was definitely a move in the right direction. But that is the one my SD came with and I am going to a 160nm-185mm. In my forks, I am swapping out to the 9.0's instead of the stock 9.5's. I'm not sure about this, but I think your SDR may have even stiffer fork springs than that. I know from my high tech zip tie gauge on my forks that even with NO preload, I am only using 4.3" of the available 5.13" and I weigh 188 nekked. Now before you spend money on new springs, this may be fixed for free. That harsh ride you describe could be caused by having too much compression damping. So get out your tool kit and your owners manual. Pg 38 should give some suggested settings for your shock. First get your 17mm socket and turn that nut on the top of your shock reservoir all the way clockwise, but count the turns while you do it. Was it 2.5 turns out? If it was lower than that, set it to 2.5 (going counterclockwise) and take it for a ride. If it was already at 2.5, try 3 or 3.5 and see if you like it. If you do like it, try doing the same kind of adjustment to your forks. Basic setting for the SDR is 18 clicks counterclockwise, try that or 20,22, etc. Try adjusting your preload too. Keep in mind that reducing preload usually requires increasing rebound. Only make one adjustment at a time so you will get a feel for what works and what doesn't. Verify your other settings to the basic settings in your manual too and PM me and let me know if this helps. Good luck!
