Average tyre Life?

I have my factory Diablo Corsa III on and have noticed it is wearing quickly.

I inspected it before a 200km ride this weekend and thought I should get another thousand kms out of it.

Apparenty I was wrong. I was fueling up for a 500 km round trip today and found steel cords showing !!!!

Trip cancelled, but glad I caught it. The crazy thing is I only got 3900kms out of the tyre. Apparently the high speeds take their toll.

I found a somewhat local supplier with it in stock for $285 Canadian. I figure I'll run the same till the front needs replacing and then maybe switch to a longer range pair.

I have just put on a set of Avon Viper extreme's, yes I know they 're track tyres but they only cost me £80 off fleabay. Did a nice run to south wales sunday and they were fine, infact it felt really smooth and natural, warmed up ok and did'nt cool too quickly. And if they only last the rest of summer (2000) miles that'l do me. I used to worry about track tyres being too focused, but not anymore. And b4 anyone starts moaning about track tyres on the road (full potential not reached) yeah yeah I know. But these avons V62's are doin me just fine

250 miles for a rear, 500 or so for a front.
