#4I'm 180cm (5'11") and have the bar risers. I've ridden other SDs without them and to be honest there's very little difference in feel. You are just slightly more upright with them but you'd hardly notice.
My advice - buy an SD and look out on eBay for Gary's risers if you need them (but they're only about £20 new so why worry) so just get 'em and see what difference they make to you

I am 183 cm -6' and I have the risers and I do prefer them on to off but plipton is right there is not a lot of difference but enough ...
They are quite cheap and in combination with the bar adjustment you should find a comfortable position.

#6I put the risers on and like them...but what a chore!...it should have been dead easy and it was not...the little tubes that go around the bolts were too long and when I tightened up the bolts they got distorted and ground into one of the bottom washers...the tubes had to be shortened..also the locknuts on the bottom had to be replaced with regular nuts (thankfully they are a coarse metric thread...finding any sort of fine metric threaded bolts around here is impossible)...There were all sorts of little problems that shouldn't have happened if the KTM risers had been designed right in the first place...at least the possible difficulties should have been mentioned in the instruction sheet...anyway..they are on now and I like the new position...just a little bit flattrack..
