Best thing I ever did to the SD

I was kinda bummed out today so like a woman buying a new pair of shoes to feel better, I drowned my sorrows at Lee's Cycles with a custom map/dyno run and FINALLY got my suspension set up right. It just needed a pro all along, not new springs. It's amazing what a few adjustments can make. The tech said my FAR was all over the place even though that map was supposed to be for a bike with similar mods. (motobox, SAS, Leo Vince, etc.) My suspension was in similar disarray after I tried setting it up myself. The throttle issues are gone. I can roll on/off as gentle or sudden as I want and the bike only does what I expect it to do. He stiffened the suspension and then adjusted the reb and comp and I was sure it would be too stiff for my liking but it's perfect. I couldn't be happier and I recommend that anyone who has done the usual mods like pipes and motobox go get your own map made.

I am curious though why after all the mods I have done, and now the custom map, I am only getting 116HP. I love how it feels now so I'm not worried, but I thought it would/should be in the 120's+
I have the same setup as you Moby. The suspension set up made a huge difference in the all around rideability of the SD. I would recomend this as the first thing you do.
I wish I had an actual 116 hp. I make only 108 with VP U4.2 race fuel.
I see all sorts of high hp numbers here but have failed to see that on my bike. I have said it before, whatever the numbers say, my bike was soooo much different after the same mods as yours and the custom map. May not look like it on paper but you sure can feel it in the seat!
Where is Lee Cycle?
Nice one Moby. I hope everyone who starts a thread about maps reads this.

So many people want to know if they can run with the standard map or with the Akra map and has anyone got one that they can use etc. etc. - and then there is the usual debate about what is best. But what you've discovered is true - a custom map is best and the difference is astounding. I don't know why anyone is shy of doing it - the cost is small for the benefit gained.

Same for suspension set up.

On the issue of BHP I think that the dyno figures often are not correct anyway but it's not the maximum power that matters really - it's a flat line you're after with no dips and a fat torque curve in the mid range. That's what you feel when riding on the road in my opinion.

I have heard these conversations for my whole life and folks always seem to forget that every dyno on the planet is different one from another... HP numbers are quite irrelevant from dyno to dyno so the numbers provided by manufacturers are nearly always skewed in their favor. (There are so many things you can do to artificially obtain high numbers.) Also it depends on where it is measured.. Manufacturers measure at the engine and that always ensures higher numbers because you don't have any loss from the drive train..

Anyway, unless you dyno your bike STONE STOCK and then make all your mods and have it dynod again on the EXACT SAME DYNO, your numbers have no relevance when compared to someone else's numbers...

So just ride the thing and relish the fact that you have made mods that have made your bike better and you can FEEL it!

ENJOY
