#7I probably cruise at around 140 kph...but I have never taken the SD out for a spin (and I ride it work nearly everyday) without at least cracking the ton (161 kph) once or twice.
I noticed the slogan on the San Francisco motorcycle newspaper when I was out there this summer. It was something like "Ride Fast...Take Risks"...sounds good.

#18I brought my bike home with the KTM touring screen on it, with the stock "screen" in a box with all the other stock parts. I didn't really care much for the looks of it, and didn't really consider what it had to be called wind protection. I removed it & refitted the stock piece. Much better looks IMHO, and no real noticeable difference in windblast.
I commute 35 miles each way to work on my bike, getting up to ~75-85. Not a problem. Much faster than that may be a different story if sustained for much more than a quick blast. 110 was pretty fun for a few secs.....

#24I'm doing an experiment..trying out the tiny stock bug screen for awhile...this morning I took off the touring screen (with stickers) and thought for a second of replacing it with my other touring screen (sans stickers) but decided to go stock instead...we'll see what its like...after so long with the tour screen its like riding with definitely something missing up front...like riding a dirt bike without a headlight for the first time...it might slow me down. we'll see.

#25I know, point taken. Here I know a lot of people, including me, won't even ride long distances on motorways, taking the 'scenic' route instead and allowimng foir the extra time to get to where we are going. This is because we don't want to wear our soft rear tyres out and would be bored rigid whilst doing it. But we're talking about a couple of hundred miles here. Not the distances you're talking about. I'm not sure If I could contemplate riding 1000 miles. Certainly not in one go - or even over a weekend.

I have lived in Canada for a year though. In 1989 I lived on an island called Cortez in Desolation Sound which is just off the West coast of Vancouver Island BC. Most beautiful place I ever lived really. There was only one paved road and everyone made their own houses. It was mainly new age hippy types, American draught dodgers from the Vietnam and Korean era and native Canadians, (on a reservation). There were out door hot tubs where naked people called Sky and Dream watched killer whales while the sun set and listened to others play drums and do yoga.
On the mainland in Campbell River there were redneck types, beer and lots of strip clubs and tyre changing places and truck dealerships. There was always a huge cloud of black smoke hanging over the horizon in the direction of Campbell River, like Mordor in Lord of the Rings.
Everyone was always talking about the logging issue and overfishing.
There was also the hard core contingent from Quebec who would only talk French, (Why?),

#31I have the touring screen on...Have though the tank bag would never be used...but when I take it off..There IS more wind buffeting...So instead of the back pack..I use the tank bag always...believe it..it expands enough for a 12 pack..and does make a difference..

#33Here's another vote for the Skidmarx screen. It's slightly less well made than the KTM one, and slightly more expensive, but it offers at least the same protection (I own both) but looks much nicer IMO, as it looks like the standard item, but bigger.
I can cruise in comfort on the M-Way at 85-95 for an hour or so with this screen. On the OE item, I find I either ride faster to get the journey over and done with quicker (and strain my neck) or reduce speed to 80 and get bored fast.
