I ordered the black anodised airbox. Yesterday it arrived and I installed it last night with the new secondary flies, SAS blockoffs and SAS resistor. I don't have the 02 sensors disabled yet, but I do have the Akra map, and the the bike feels smoother. The thing sounds amazing. There weren't any photos of the black airbox, so I attached a few. I also attached a photo of the new airbox with the original. It's amazing how much stuff there is in there from the factory, and this photo doesn't include the SAS sytem because I hadn't removed it yet. All in all, I'm really impressed with this mod.

Sweet in black, isn't it? I was stoked to see Aaron was anodizing them...(sucks you'll never really see it after it's been fitted) Lol.'

I posted some pics as I was installing mine about a month ago. Like you said,'it is pretty amazing how much B.S. the 'box does away with. Even more amazing is the size of the opening in the stock box the bike had to inhale through.

Enjoy it!
yes! i'm jealous that mine is plain alloy and not black! it does look great, bet it looks nice against the orange.

Would look good with the "orange" pre-filter he sells,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Matt_black, you are right. The stock snorkel is tiny. I'll do a search to find your airbix photos. I like looking at every install I can find to see what ideas people have that I might be able to apply to my bike.

Loony888, I thought the same about contrast with orange. Unfortunately you can only see the bottom of the airbox so it isn't that noticeable. I really like the look of the bare aluminium, but I figured the black would match the rest of the bike. Seeing the open throttle body area and the bottom of the airbox are subtle but very nice aesthetic improvements.

I rode it again today, and the throttle is definitely smoother even though it still has functional 02 sensors. It definitely has less engine braking effect, and the SAS removal got rid of the exhaust popping on decel as expected. Removing the 02 sensor input is my next goal. Even though I don't yet have the benefit of all supporting airbox mods, the Motohooligan airbox has made a great improvement in the refinement of the bike.
Just checked UPS and mine left San Francisco today, cant bloody wait.
Mine is also in black. Wanted to order the orange pre filters but Aaaron is out of stock.
Looks great in black. But you won't see it when fitted. Shame.

After a few days of riding with this new airbox, I have to say its the best mod I've done. The bike is much smoother at low rpm (that's probably partly attributable to the new flies) and seems stronger above 4k. 02 eliminators should arrive and be put on today and then I think the snatchy throttle will be 100% gone. I already find myself able to lope along in 3rd at 25 mph with no lurching or bogging... could never do that stock. I have the Akra map and will eventually have a map made, but I think I will be really happy with it as is once the eliminators are installed.
I installed the 02 eliminators last Wed. Throttle response is smoother than ever. I wish SDs came with a kit from the factory so you could just put everything on when you bought it, like the 1098R had with the Termi exhaust and DP ECU. Regardless, its much nicer with these changes. Thanks to all who did the learning early on with these mods and then posting what was learned here.
