#3im torn these days. as machines make more and more power so that they have electronics to make them ridable... seems like more potential for something to go wrong, i like knowing there are a set of cables allowing me to close the throttle as well as open it. that said cars have been fly by wire for years.
i also dont want to see technology stop... like i said im torn.

#13Nothing wrong with big bhp as long as you know how to use it,bmw has set the bench mark now and all the jap bike manufactures will have to step up,i think its a good thing that abs and traction control will be standard equipment in a few years time,and on the plus side the traction control can be turned off on the bmw so you can still leave rubber on the tarmac coming out of a corner pinned in second or third out of a nice corner....lol

#24Ok Gents, here goes - First Ride impressions BMW S1000RR.
First of all, it is a beautiful bike. I rode the white and blue BMW coloured bike with the factory Akrapovik exhaust fitted. The can gives it a bit more of a bark compared to stock in addition to much better looks. Performance wise I don't think it will make much of a difference, especially on the road.
I only got to ride it on the road but in all fairness this bike belongs on track where it will really get into its own.. I did however go on highways, city streets and round a small mountain here in Brisbane.
Positives
Awesome, smooth, turbine-like throttle with changeable modes. I started in Sport which was a bit lathargic when used to the SD. After chaning to Race it immediately picked up.
Extremely powerful engine, especially over 7000 revs. This thing really launches and is deceptively fast.
Power shifter for up shifts, very easy to use and effortless upshifts. However, doesn't work on small throttle openings.
It's easy to move around on it and it steers pretty quickly.
Traction control and race ABS - i didn't have a chance to test this on the road but it would be a handy 'comfort blanket' when pushing on the track.
Negatives (this is me being used to the SD)
Lack of low down torque, nothing really happens until you pass 7 grand.
Very cramped seating position (I'm 6 foot) - I would need rearsets if I was to own it.
Little things like non reach adjustable clutch leaver.
However, the main disadvantage was to me the lack of excitement on the road - it's so easy to ride and handle but lacks the x-factor, or fun gene if you wish, that the SD has in abundance. It reminded me of the reason I got out of sportsbikes in the first place - They don't get fun until you start pushing silly speeds.
So to sum up, on the track I think it will be an awesome weapon, especially considering the electronic riding aids you get at this price point. However, as a road bike, to me, it doesn't make sense - the lack of 'fun' torque is completely absent and there's no feeling of speed.
Just my two cents..
