#7I'd say get the zip repaired unless you fancy a new pair anyway.
I was always breaking the puller on my sidis but rather than using a keyring I found that the local fabric shop stocked clip on zip pullers which sit a bit nicer under the boot flap than a key ring does, so if anyone breaks their zip pull, check out your local fabric shop.

#27Got some TCX boots last year and they are the schizz. Been in Alpinestars and Gearne up til then and the TCX jobs are way better quality, more comfortable blah, blah...Just much better.

Grendel went with them because they were the first boot to have an inner boot with outer cover. The inner boot is an articulated protection shell. Very comfortable and you don't end up looking like a storm trooper. You can also purchase outer shells separately to keep them looking nice and shiney. They come in water proof or not.

#31Sidi Vertigos for me. The soles are wearing out though. I tried on a pair of Daytona evo sports and not as comfortable (for walking around) as the Sidi's and twice as much $$$, I am going to give them a try. A few riders have them and are very happy with them. Details of the boot are here

#33Been riding for 30 years. Tried everything. Spent a lot of the last decade in Alpine Stars of different sorts - pure race through to waterproof versions. good....but.......
Three years ago got a pair of Daytona Evo Sport, (gortex version), from Ebay. I think I paid about £130. They were already a few years old but they are without doubt the best boots I ever owned. Comfortable, light, reassuring, well made. I've crashed in them six times on track and they have done their job superbly. I have had the outers repaired professionally and they still are good for years. I think I will be using these boots for many, many years to come. Still have a pair of waterproof Alpine stars for commuting but the Daytonas are the bollox. I really, really rate them. They make all other boots seem cheap and plastic. The only thing I would trade them for is the Security Evo versions with kevlar inners. I scan ebay all the time for them but they come up rarely in my size which is common.

#34I used Sidi couriers for years,loved em! Now i have a new pair of Goretex Vertigos, they are ok. Not as warm and a bit too roomy at the top for my legs but im hoping the goretex will be fully waterproof.
The Daytonas look orsm but are totally mega bucks! And i mean MEGA bucks. Ive seen pairs with Goretex that were over £600!

#40i have alpinestars SMX Plus (i think??) and they're good, they fit well and have lasted a long time, which i'm sad to say is unusual for alpinestars these days. the soles tend to fall off all mine, and it's quite common apparantly, add to that they're an absolute bastard to break in and i'm going back to gaerne next time, unless i can find some daytonas in my size, they really are that good huh??

#47The new sidi st boots look like a good option they have the vortice ankle protection system without all the fishing line, I have a pair of puma 1000 v2 for the track as I got a good deal unfortunately they are uncomfortable and cumbersome. Also like the look of the gaerne grw gp.

#52About the squeaking, yep, they do squeak. Not really the boots of choice if you're looking to cheat on your girlfriend, because there's no way she won't wake up when you get back home in the middle of the night.
I don't really care about it myself though, but I've been told it can be fixed. I still rate them.

But the TXC are good boots for the price ANd I find them comfortable and have been through one crash at the track with flying colours.
I'm sure there are quite a few good boots on the market, personal choice really.

#57I'm bloody rapped with the SMX-2's for everyday and wet weather - havent leaked at all yet and are still good as new after 16 months of regular use even in tropical downpours. Then there's the Supertech R's. Oh yess. I love em. They look good, feel good and did a great job of looking after me when I had an off on track last August. Look snazzy with the disco leathers too.

#59I think everyone agrees, doesn't matter as long as you are wearing a reasonable complement of riding gear!
If you know anyone who as had skin grafts for whatever reason, as I do, protective gear not only minimizes your risk of injury but also potential down time off work and the financial consequences. Not to mention depending on you countries health system, burden to the taxpayer for you treatment and hospital care!
As Dutch said, light boots for the city and better boots for track and weekend scraping, that's sensible. I cringe when I see riders wearing sandles and t shirts etc!
Sorry for the rant..... A sign of aging experience I guess?

#65So I had to get some Hydraulic hose made up for one of my trailers but the shop said it would take about 1/2 hour to be ready so while waiting I decided to drive down the road to a bike shop. As it turns out they are closing down and had a blow out sale going on. I started looking around for the boots section and found the last pair of Alpinestars on the rack. I opened the box and they were Black SMX Plus boots, I prayed they were my size and as it turns out they were. I went up to the counter to get the price and the girl said $200 tax in, so I now have my Boots!!! Thanks guys for all the help and I look forward to posting more about how much fun I am having on the SDR plus some Vids on the Go Pro!!!

#67I have a pair of Daytona's which have lasted for almost 10 yrs (Daytona Road Star GORE-TEX®) THe quality of them is excellent but they are expensive to buy however considering their longevity they are good value for money.
Only need to replace them now. They are still in OK nick but getting a bit past it now.

#75Gaerne GR-S and recently GP-1. Crashed the GR-S a few times, no injuries and remain serviceable (soles finally getting worn ). Have crashed the GP-1 once, no injures, and totally serviceable. No zipper issues on either, but have had to replace the toe sliders a couple of times on the GR-S (which are now nearly 5 years and ~50+ trackdays and who knows how many twisty days old).

#77I severely twisted both my ankles from a highside at the track a few years ago, wearing SMX Plus Alpinestars boots. After that little excursion to the moon I started checking all motorcycle boots to see how much 'give' they have at the ankles. Even the most expensive Sidi and Alpinstars boots bent like a frickin toothpick at the ankles, it's startling.
I now wear Dainese Torque boots religiously. Next step up would be Daytona. It's funny how both these boots are completely understated yet offer the most protection... while Sidi and Alpinestars wanna make you look like a Storm Trooper but do nothing to protect your ankle.

#79I have a pair of Sidi Canyon boots. Don't really like them for street riding. Sole is to thick, toe is too high, no feel on the shift lever. For daily commute riding I wear Dainese Manaus shoes if its not raining. These are also my everyday walking shoes. I've been looking at the Puma Desmo boots for xmas present to myself. My understanding is that Puma gear is made by Dainese anyways, so you can save a little.

#82I have always liked alpinestars products.For my mx bikes I have tech 7 with the chest and neck protectors.For my duke and RC8 I use the smx boot/shoes they are very comfy and look good.plus I think they offer great protection.I also have a GP pro one piece suit with their road racing boots I love these boots so comfy from the first day you can wear them all day on track day and walk around and they feel as comfy as tennis shoes.These boots are tough I know they will protect me and my ankles.I have never had a problem with alpinestars products.They are many other companies that have great stuff.I like the fact I can get warranty and great prices on alpinestars.Many stores carry alpine stars so it's easy to find the products and try them on for fit .I hate buying stuff that I can't try on first. You can't go wrong with their stuff.

#83I am currently using (have been using for about 4.5 years) a pair of Puma Bonneville GTX. Bought them before I got my SD and when I used to do a lot of all weather riding.
Very comfy, similar feel like wearing their trainers (read snug fit, like slippers ) and still as waterproof as the day I bought them. Only had a lowside in them, so haven't really tested the crashability, but apart from a scuff on the toe (possibly from getting my toe down rather than the lowside) there is no damage.

#89I ride with Alpinestars SMX boots. I'm sure they're less protective than many of the track orientated boots listed in this thread but they still offer decent protection and are as comfo
rtable as a pair of well broken in sneakers. They are also very easy to walk in, unlike the ski boot feel of the dedicated track boots. I personally think they're a nice option for the ordinary street rider.

#90alpinestar SMX for me too, goretex lined which actually works! but i have bigger calf muscles which makes doing the zip up to the top a bit of a pain, but if a boot fits my foot i have that issue with all of them. gaerne are good too but i shy away as they're way too pricey here.

#97I bought some Sidi STs in the Isle of Man after my faithfull Gaerne GPRs broke (they were knackered anyway) but like all Sidi boots, they squeek. Are comfy enough on the road but I miss my sparky sliders.
Also have Moto-X boots, again Sidi but would never look to wear them on the road as they are just so cumbersome and restricted.
I have just bought these Diadora Trials Boots to use on my trials bike (because my MX boots were so awkward), have only done 3 laps of the sitting room so far but they are very comfy and supple, may look to use them on wet days on the SD:
