Any insight why I cannot import my 2008 SD into Canada? I have a buyer for my SD. He checked out bringing it across the border into Ontario, Canada. Apparently there is this list of motor vehicles that are admissible into Canada. The 2008 KTMs are not on the list. Any feedback on this subject would be appreciated.

#2Ask Riv Canada, they make the rules. I doubt you would be able to get it imported into Canada unless they change the allowed models .

#3That wild! Canada had bikes the we in the US wanted and some how got . Like a new 1985 GSXR 750, a year before we could. And the two smoke, 4 banger Gamas. Hot damn. Stick your wanted bike on the back of a motor home and drive across the border. Just make sure the bike looks like you use it with dirt and bugs. Titles Good luck

Im in Toronto and Ive imported two USA bikes the last being a ST4S.
Make sure all recalls are done and check again. A 2008 should go through as they were sold here that year, I know , Im on one

#5According to my dealer, the bike needs to be brought to a dealer in Canada. (how do you get the bike to the dealer if it is not allowed into the country)
The dealer contacts KTM NA and requests a "Letter of No Recall". KTM will not issue the letter. The reasoning is that KTM NA wants the bike to be purchased [u]in[/u] Canada, not imported from the USA. Same goes for the Ducatis. If you look at the list provided in this thread, you will see newer bikes from other manufacturers admissible into Canada but not others.

#9I looked at importing into Canada last year due to lack of availability and insane prices for anything KTM and found that there are a couple of costs that you have to look out for - there is a RIV fee for the paperwork and 7% duty to be paid if the bike was not made in N.America. I started looking at a 2011 Speed Triple after giving up on importing a Sduke and found that after all was said and done I would have saved about $300 just on the deal only - for me it was not worth the effort to save $300.

#10The bike doesn't have to be built in the states in order to avoid duty, it just has to be built FOR the American market.
I imported 3 jap bikes over the years and didn't pay duty on any of them. They were all, of course, built in Japan- but specifically for use in North America. I believe that is the key difference. As such, you're 'only' on the hook for RIV fee and 13% sales tax.

#11I don't know what the problem is, but I'm riding a 2008 SD that was imported from Kentucky here in Canada.
