#11Can you take the wheel off and put it on a balancer with a run-out gauge and have it properly measured for run out?

#14All I have on mine is the sprocket carier moving about 1mm in the wheel when rocking the wheel back and forward. The bike has just shy of 4000 km. Is this normal or are the damping rubbers worn allready?

#47This pic was snapped just before I found out that my SDR was dead.
It's always fun to kneel in gravel with your leathers on (ruining them I might add) to fix a brand new bike. Mass centralization is cool and all but when you have to fix it on the road it blows chunks. Here, we are actually jumping off the bike with a set of screw drivers clamped in the jumper cable clamps. The guy on the left was holding a screwdriver on the positive side and I was holding one on the negative terminal. Realizing that my luck has been running about as bad as it can get related to this bike, I turned my head to avoid any potential explosion that might occur. I'm generally not superstitious or anything but I trust this bike about as far as I can pee. I wasn't taking any chances.
This was after it had died once already and I realised that I would have to get on my knees again and open the battery box so we could get to the battery terminals for another attempt at jumping the bike off.

#50You got rear tyre for me Crotchy? The 2CT's are only $125 now so will probably get one of those soon. I got 4k miles out of the last one I had.

#54Speaking of balance. They've got it balanced close. There are 30 grams of weights on the rear wheel with a total of 6 weights. On mine, 20 grams are on one side of the rim and 10 are on the other. I've never seen that before. Usually, all weights are in one spot on one side of the rim. Seems to me, because I have weights in two different spots on both sides of the wheel, they had a harder time balancing it. Is it normal to have weights on two sides of the wheel? Anyone?
Regardless as to whether or not the wheel is perfectly balanced or could be perfectly balanced, it is still a defect in workmanship.

#58I have weights in multiple places on my wheel. They are on either side (left/right) of the wheel and not opposite (N/S) and not in similar amounts.
This makes is much easier to see what I mean than trying to describe it:
I don't have enough room to be putting mine in the air and running it so can't confirm any roundness issue even if I knew where to put the dial indicator.

You can print out the photo of mine I took when i swapped the rear sprocket and tell them "It should look like this".
btw, my KTM dealer, in business for 45 years and VERY knowledgeable flat out wouldn't check my valves at the first 620mi (1000k) service unless I insisted on it. Said minimum would be to check it at the second one at around 3500mi or so, other than that I was just wasting my money. I am at 3200mi so that should be in the next week or two weather permitting. I am going to pray for no cam wear issues as it's a 2008.

#65I was trying to figure out how the sprocket mount castings could be out on my wheel and the sprocket still centered. It's the damnedest thing when you look at it. There is no doubt at all two of the mounts are out about 1/8" yet the sprocket is dead center. So you may be right. Perhaps two of the sprocket mounts are super thin on my wheel. They need to check that. Thanks for pointing it out.

#66When I purchased my bike there were two sets of weights on the rear wheel. One set was at a differant location than the other. The speculation, and let me say I believed the theory, was that KTM balances the wheel and adds weight as neccessary to balance the wheel sans tyre installation. They then mount the tyre and balance again, putting more weights on for the tyre balance. All weights were pulled by the bike shop before they mounted the new tyre as that is just part of their proccess. The new tyre is balanced and was the first and last time that I had two sets of weights on the rear wheel. It is my firm beleif that the out of true castings at the hub are in no way affecting the balance at the out side. You could have any shape between the center axis and outer rim you desired or ended up with with no desireable qualitys as long as center axis is center and outside circumferance is true. Balance is within spec at circumfrance. All other garbage between is subject to no psysical laws except that it needs to be connected between the two, center and circumferrence, with something.
If the hub looks like the home made pottery schlop my sisters would bring home from summer camp and It drives you crasy looking at a wheel Fred Flintstone may not even be proud of ,that is a horse of a differant color and I would demand a new one on looks alone. This is under astetics though not usability.

#69The only problem I can see from a wheel like you've described though is the unbalanced distribution of the weight.
Hope you get it sorted mate. WOuld be terrible to go for a slide because of soemthing like that.
