Changing the Head light mask on a 06 SD

I've been thinking for a while now, about changing the head light mask on my '06 SD, and replace it with the one from a '07. Do you think this is possible? According to the IPC and www.ktm-parts.com, the parts (not counting the new speedo) would set me back close to $200 for the parts. A new speedo is another $262 if I want to (or have to) replace it. Will a new speedo fit and work on a '06 bike without any further mods?


What do you think, is it worth the effort, money, etc? I've always thought the head light mask is the ugliest part on the 05-06 bikes...

The connections might differ from the the older ones, if youre installing the new speedo.

My first choice would be to keep the existing speedo with the new mask, but if I can't make it fit, it's always good to know how much trouble it would be to install the new one.

IMO If I was buying your bike I would personally walk away as you dont know how much milage it's done (it could have done starship milage and you put a new one on to make it look less), I would also think it had been crashed, and it would mess up your service book, not worth the effort if you ask me, better off buying a carbon head light cowl.....

But if your thinking of keeping it for years that may be a bit different.

Plus if your riding it right, people only get to see the back end!

You have a point there, Superdan, but I plan on keeping this bike for a long time, and the front mask is the only part I really don't like about it.

But my first choice would be to keep the original speedo if I can make it fit in the new mask. I think I'll have to take a look at a '07 bike and compare...
