Was a fool's errand, but was fun anyway! Onramped a toll road here in SoCal on Friday last right behind a Corvette, late model, no more than a couple years old. It was later in the evening and only one other car around that I saw for the duration. He had it breathing pretty free, sounded nice. Anyway, he took off up the ramp and I followed and I saw him squat and get on it, little puff of exhaust as his accelerator hit the floor. I stayed right with him, not losing ground, until the speedo said 125 and I started to lose a little..
...good sense finally re-asserted itself and I backed it off. That was the first time I really pushed the SD hard all the way to redline in all but top.
Couple of observations
1. damn it was fun!
2. damn glad there wasn't a John Q. Law nearby!
3. the SD is definitely not a top speed sorta ride (as if this was in question ) but it has more top-end pull than I expected
4. little wobble from the bars when I hit 2nd really hard, but otherwise very stable throughout
5. the KTM tank-bag works pretty well as a wind-break when you're hunched over it, surprisingly enough
I'm glad I didn't have the 07 FZ1, because I would have likely pushed much longer and gone significantly faster, increasing the stupid factor exponentially...but some little part of my (obviously infantile) brain thinks that the FZ would have gotten away up front
